2nd Annual Holiday Party & Toy Drive

The Spirit of Giving in Sin City

By Loretta Holt, President

Now that we are in our second year of existence, the Sin City Chamber Of Commerce can start to name our events with the title "annual" and our second annual Holiday Party promises to be even more fun than our very first one last year. The holiday season is a very special time; a time when we count our blessings and want to share some of those blessings with others. By attending our Holiday Party on December 9th at the Ice House you have the opportunity of sharing a little bit of Christmas cheer with some less fortunate children. Your admission ticket to the Sin City Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party is an unwrapped toy for children from 1-18.

Peace On Earth "War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children." President Jimmy Carter

These toys are going to be donated to two very worthy organizations in town. One is the Shade Tree; the other is the Friends and Family of Incarcerated Persons, Inc. The Shade Tree is a place that provides shelter and assists homeless women and children to find homes and a new way of life. I wrote about this organization in the November issue of The Sin City Vision. The second organization, Friends and Family of Incarcerated Persons, is a small, little known, grass roots organization that tries to help the families of incarcerated individuals cope with their situation, as well as trying to prepare inmates (both men and women) for a successful reentry to society. 2005 Year in Review

2005 was a very good year for the Sin City Chamber of Commerce. We held some amazing events including the Sin City Experience Adult Show in conjunction with the SNAPI Gay Pride Festival, a Spring BBQ at the Chicken Ranch Brothel and our first annual Sin City Chamber Golf Classic. Aside from holding our monthly events, we've added several new benefits for members. Our Sin City Chamber Radio Hour on, which airs every Friday, has been very effective at getting the word out there about the chamber and our members. An alliance with United States Bankcard Service, has produces a fantastic benefit that helps our members save money on their Credit Card Processing Fees. We began the year with just under 100 members and now we are fast approaching 250 Members. Our website has seen constant changes and increased traffic. We have also added a new Membership Calendar that lets our members add their events to an online calendar. We at the Sin City Chamber of Commerce want to thank our Members for the support and foresight they have had in joining our new chamber. 2006 is shaping up to be an amazing year and we want every business in Las Vegas to join us and see why we are the buzz of Vegas. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes to All!

From everyone at the Sin City Chamber of Commerce, we would like to say thank you to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifice, valor and honor enable each of us to bask in the glow of freedom. Come home safe and know that we support you 100%. The Sin City Chamber of Commerce has completed our new Sponsorship Guide that will give our members the opportunity to market, advertise and promote their companies. We have put together this guide to fit every budget and give you maximum exposure for your marketing dollars throughout 2006. Sponsorships with the Sin City Chamber ranges from $250 to $40,000. Each event will be promoted by the Sin City Chamber in our marketing efforts. Each sponsorship will help a Non Profit Member of the Sin City Chamber of Commerce. Each event will see proceeds going directly to great organizations like the Free Speech Coalition, Shade Tree, the Odyssey Foundation, the Center, SNAPI, & the Community Counseling Center. In 2006, we are adding several new events including the Sin City Business Awards & Gala and a Sin City Membership Retreat to review the past year and plan for the coming years. We value our members input and assistance in setting the direction you want your chamber to move. The Sin City Membership Retreat will be an opportunity to share your suggestions, give us your ideas and help us plan on how to become bigger, better and more effective for you. Also new will be our Brunch Series, which will include 5 brunches in 2006. Each scheduled at The White House with some exciting speakers and opportunities for the membership. We are happy to announce the 2nd Annual Sin City Chamber Golf Classic will be held in the fall, the location is being negotiated as we approach press time. This was one of the best events of 2005. We understanding that not everyone will attend the special events in which a ticket price incurs. As always, we will continue to hold monthly member mixers at various member locations. Member mixers are always free, open to members and their guests and offer the opportunity to build relationships, make some new friends and enjoy the camaraderie with your fellow members. Be sure to review the Sponsorship Guide when you receive your copy and include it in your Marketing Budget for 2006. Its great exposure and a great help to some worthy causes. Sincerely, Wayne Bridge, CEO

Feliz Navidad

Holiday Traditions by Adriana Picazo Russell

During the holiday season traditions play a major role. I grew up in Mexico City, which of course is vastly different from Las Vegas in many ways. In Mexico, Christmas is an important holiday season with strong traditions. One of the most colorful traditions is the posada party. Las Posadas (Spanish for "the inn") is a traditional Mexican festival which re-enacts Joseph's search for room at the inn. Every year the posada party is one of the highlights of the season, in commemoration of the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Each Christmas season every evening from December 16 to 24, a processional, carrying a doll representing the Christ Child and images of Joseph and Mary riding a burro (donkey), walks through the community streets. The processional stops at a previously selected home and asks for lodging for the night. The people are invited in to sing Christmas carols called villancicos. There is plenty of food and drink, with candies and fruit for the children. At dusk, all the guests gather outside the house. The Christ Child doll is left at the chosen home and picked up on the next night when the processional begins again which will end at a new home for the posada party. This continues for eight nights in commemoration of the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem. A small child dressed as an angel leads, followed by children carrying figures of Mary and Joseph. Boys and girls dressed in silver and gold robes constitute the procession, followed by the adults and musicians. Everyone sings holiday songs as they walk slowly along, carrying their lit candles. When they reach the house, the group divides in two. One half remains outside and begs for shelter from the other half, which is inside the house. The doors are then opened, the religious part of the celebration ends, and the fun begins. We at the Sin City Chamber of Commerce want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season filled with joy. Feliz Navidad!

The SnakeBabe, More than just another pretty face. . .

She cut a naked woman in half on Jerry Springer, her "Drop Dead Gorgeous " beauty stole the show on David Letterman, Ripley's Believe It Or Not called her a "Sexy Seductress who strips to save Serpents"

Meet Sin City Chamber of Commerce Member Maria Gara the SnakeBabe. A Las Vegas Magician whose sexy yet comical style of magic has put her on television over and over again. Along with her juggling side-kick Steven Lee August, Maria is in high demand as a performer with animals. Regardless of her adult website ( even a "Family Friendly" cable channel like "The Animal Planet" seemingly looked the other way when she was featured on not only one, but three specials. The latest had her perform a Houdini-like escape from a coffin full of scorpions! This deadly stunt resulted in her being presented an award from the President of the elite Magic Castle!

"Maria is so much more than just a pretty face" reveals her comical co-star and husband Steve August, who can be seen assisting Maria every Tuesday with her snake displays at Studio 54 in the MGM Grand. "What many of Maria's fans do not know is that she operates a rescue for unwanted reptiles, all those sexy pictures they buy of Maria helps to save animals!" Maria adds "I adopt these sick, dying reptiles to nurse them back to health. Many times I have been successful but too often by the time they reach my facility, the animal has been ignored for a very long time. Poor things are too far gone to do anything but make comfortable until their passing or sometimes just put to sleep if it is beyond hope". This is a very sad dilemma that Maria faces every day because of her love for animals. But why snakes? Maria replies, "I just have an unusual soft spot for reptiles and I am allergic to fur!" Visit to learn more about Maria, the Snake Babe.

Spirit of Giving in Sin City Continued.

The Friends and Family of Incarcerated Persons, FFIP, came into existence when Rev. Karl Evans realized that certain members of his congregation had nowhere to turn for help and support when a family member was incarcerated. Rev. Evans, along with Donna Metcalf and Diana Swisher, organized a support group and in April, 1998 the FFIP was established. In December 2000 FFIP became an official non-profit organization. The goal of the FFIP is to provide a safe and comfortable setting where those on the outside can come to talk about any problems they are experiencing because of a loved one's incarceration. Follow up contact with the family is maintained and help, encouragement, and information is disseminated as needed. Funding for FFIP is limited and provided mostly by an annual yard sale and private donations. During the course of a year, the volunteers of FFIP send out birthday cards and holiday greeting cards to inmates. They also participate in the Going Home Prepared Programs by giving clothes and supplies while volunteers help with the reentry process. Their volunteers assist at several half way houses including OUR HOUSE and Casa Grande, by helping parolees find employment. The annual Christmas party is held for the family and children of inmates. There is plenty of food and Santa distributes gifts to all the children. When there is a strong family support system for those on the outside, as well as for the inmates, along with a proactive reentry program, the recidivism rate is greatly reduced. This benefits everyone, the inmates, their friends and family as well as society as a whole. For further information, you can contact, Donna Metcalf at 702-870-5577, President or Fae Ryder, Secretary, 702-655-6754. If you know of any non-profit organization that does good deeds in our city and receives little recognition or funding from private and public resources, please let us know who they are and who to contact. If their budget is very limited, we will donate an Honorary Sin City Chamber Of Commerce Membership to them. We are planning lots of events for the coming year in which we will donate part of the proceeds to charitable organizations and would like to be able to help these new and or little known organizations whenever we can. Together, as a business organization, we can help make a difference in a variety of ways to enhance the quality of life in our fabulous city, Las Vegas. Nothing feels as good as helping someone else. There is no such thing as a small gift. All gifts are special in eyes of the recipient. Whether these gifts are cash, supplies, toys or time, by joining together, not only at Christmastime, but all year long to help those who may need a helping hand, we can always keep the spirit of Christmas in our hearts. At this time, I would like to wish all of you and yours a very safe and joyous Holiday season, a Merry Christmas, along with a healthy and prosperous New Year. Loretta Holt, President Sin City Chamber Of Commerce

Sin City Mixer with Las Vegas Wranglers A Thrilling Event

On November 12, 2005 the Sin City Chamber of Commerce held it's first Sin City Hockey Night with the Las Vegas Wranglers. The Sin City Event sold out and was with out a doubt one of the best events of the year. Our event was situated in the newly created "Ice Box" which is over 1,300 Sq Ft of space right up on the glass. Networking right up on the glass as the game was in full swing was a great thrill. "Players and pucks crashing up against the boards, smashing the glass as we watched on was incredible fun" commented Wayne Bridge, CEO. Down 3-1 to the Bakersfield Condors, the Las Vegas Wranglers stormed back to even it up at 3-3. Going scoreless through the overtime periods, a shoot out insued. Every Sin City Chamber Member in attendance joined the crowd on their feet as the Wranglers delighted by winning the Shoot Out and the game. One member became an instant fan of the Las Vegas Wranglers and purchased Season Tickets, while others were treated to a very unique experience. Australian born Sin City Chamber Member, Tony Andree-Jansz of Dyson and Dyson Realty, commented, "This is really fantastic. I've never been to a hockey game before, this is really a great event." Special thanks to our Hockey Night Sponsors: Club Sesso Laser Concepts of Nevada The White House, Las Vegas Bart Zimmer, Excel Realty Pleasure's Gentlemen's Club The Big Ox Oxygen Blast

at Club International Mixer

On November 17, 2005, the Members of the Sin City Chamber of Commerce were treated to a wonderful dinner provided by Club International. It was a wonderful surprise for our members to be treated to an evening of enterainment, networking and fun. Owner of Club International, Al Mughairy, informed us just as we arrived that he has prepared a special treat for the members. The first thing he said was "Expect to be treated like Royalty." During the Sin City Chamber of Commerce event, guests were treated to a wondeful evening of entertainment and great food. It was a very comfortable atmosphere and made for a very special evening, a complete dinner was served for our members at no cost. The attention given to our members was a great treat, many came expecting your typical chicken wings and networking. What they got was a fantastic evening dinner in an intimate setting with 50 friends. A cozy place, that seats 50 to 60 comfortably, Club International was opened in April of 2005 and currently serves an international menu. Everything from Middle Eastern, Spanish, French, Greek, Cajun, American, and East Indian items are their fantastic menu. Al's sister, Hunaina Bin Sultan Bin Ahmed Al-Mughairy, was appointed to an ambassador to the United States.
