World Bank Office in Kosovo 5-month Internship The World Bank Group's mission is to fight poverty and improve the living standards of people in the developing world. To help achieve this mission, the Bank provides grants, loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing services to low and middle income countries to reduce poverty. The Bank also promotes growth to create jobs and to empower poor people to take advantage of economic opportunities. In Kosovo, the World Bank has been providing direct financing since 2000, and has committed around $130 million. Please see the World Bank's website for a copy of the Interim Strategy Note and more general information on the Bank's Kosovo program ( The World Bank Office in Kosovo is looking for an intern of Kosovo residency to work in the Bank's Prishtina office during the period September 2008 - January 2009. This internship will provide an excellent opportunity for a young professional to learn more about the World Bank's operations and programs, and contribute to the economic development of Kosovo. The intern will be paid during this assignment based on her/his professional and educational experience. The intern will report to the Operations Officers in the Prishtina office and her/his exact work program will be determined based on evolving country program needs and the intern's background. In general, it is expected that the intern will assist in the following duties: 1. Provide support in the Bank's operational work on Bank projects under preparation/implementation. This may include gathering relevant information and disseminating the findings of Bank technical experts. 2. Provide support and contribute to a regular update of the political, economic and social environment in Kosovo. This will include a review of latest developments and daily press reports, and assistance in preparing Daily Media Monitoring and Kosovo Quarterly Economic Briefings. 3. Provide support in analytical research and data analysis to be used for the analytical reports that the Bank produces Applicants must have completed their undergraduate studies (not earlier than 2007) or be in their penultimate or last year of studies, have strong English writing skills, and be highly self-motivated. Interested applicants should submit a CV together with an approximate 1000 word essay on "What are the causes for rising food prices? Does this effect Kosovo? If yes, in what ways, and what should Kosovo do to alleviate its effects?"
