Biographical Information -- Sube Banerjee

Sube Banerjee studied medicine at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School before training in psychiatry at Guy's Hospital, The Maudsley and the Institute of Psychiatry. He also trained in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is Professor of Mental Health and Ageing in the Health Service and Population Research Department at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London where he directs its Centre for Innovation and Evaluation in Mental Health.

Clinically he works as a consultant old age psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He developed and directs the Croydon Memory Service which is a team focussed on improving early diagnosis and treatment of dementia. He was for four years the Department of Health for England's senior professional advisor on older people's mental health. He was appointed to lead the development of its National Dementia Strategy. In addition he completed Ministerial review of the use of antipsychotic medication in dementia for the UK Government.

He has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and his main research interests include: quality of life in dementia; carer research; randomised controlled trials; the interface between health and social services; the organisation and delivery of mental health services; and the development of strategies for their evaluation. A further focus of work is the interface between policy, research and practice.
