Music Dictation - Denver School of the Arts Instructor-Richard Serianni [email protected] Syllabus ­ 2010-2011 Course Overview: Students participating in the music dictation course will develop aural skills that support their understanding of music theory. Students will develop aural skills in the following areas: A. Rhythm recognition B. Scale recognition C. Interval recognition D. Triad recognition E. Sight singing Course Objectives: By the end of this theory rotation, students will be able to recognize and notate a variety of music after hearing. Textbook: Students will study from a variety of music scores, texts, and workbooks. Daily participation scoring guide · Follows directions · Engaged and focused · Gives best effort · Helpful and kind · Positive leadership · Respects and supports classmates · Provides musical leadership Behavior Expectations · Be respectful to yourself and others. · Be on-time to class · Take responsibility for your own learning. · Engage in appropriate, respectful and responsible behavior. · Feet on the floor, not on the chairs or tables. · No food or beverages in classroom (only water in capped bottles). · No cell phone use during class · Do not pack up to leave until you are dismissed from class. · Be attentive, and prepared. · Adhere to all school policies. Attendance: Attendance in all classes is mandatory. You are expected to be in class on time, and in your seat ready to work. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out from the instructor what you missed, and how to replace it. For make-up work, unless arranged otherwise, the policy is to allow two days for every one day missed (excused absences).
