Dear Mr. Robertson, We received your electronic mail request dated January 15, 2008 for "a file (MS Excel) of current county employee salary information as of the date of this letter to include the employee's name, position, department and annual salary for all Horry County employees for the calendar year 2008". Please be advised that we do not have employee salary information stored in the format that you have requested, an MS Excel format. Secondly, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, SC Code 30-4-40 to protect employees' privacy, it is our policy to provide information regarding the salary of those employees earning less than $50,000 in a range format, within a specified $4,000 range, as set forth in this statute. For those employees earning $50,000 or more, exact annual compensation information is provided. If you would still like to obtain the salary information for all employees, it would be in a non MS Excel format, and would necessitate many research hours to designate an Horry County employee to individually designate the appropriate salary range information that would apply to each employee. We will require an hourly rate of $15.00 per hour due to the substantial hours are required to provide requested information. We estimate that this task may require 80 hours. In addition, we charge 15 cents per page for copies. Therefore, the estimated charge for responding to this request with the information that we have in a non MS Excel format would be $1,470. We would require an advance deposit of $500. We hope you understand the necessity of requiring payment for the utilization of significant county resources during this difficult financial time, when we are attempting to conserve and maximize expenditure of resources. As an alternative, we could provide to you at no cost a printout of all county job titles, classifications and pay ranges. Please let me know how you would like to proceed. Thank you. Lisa H.
