Parish Bulletin - April 2011 - Issue III

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings of the Lenten season The Mar Thoma Sabha Pradhinidhi Mandalam of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, held on March 8th and 9th elected three more priests, for elevation to the Episcopal post. The Mar Thoma Church has a unique identity among the myriads of Churches around the world. It is "Apostolic in origin, Catholic in nature, Biblical in faith, Evangelical in principle, Ecumenical in outlook, Oriental in worship, Democratic in function and Episcopal in character. We are proud of the Episcopal polity. It is quite different from Presbyterian and congregational polities. Democratic privileges are subjected to the Episcopal character. In the season of Lent we must realize the real meaning of life. Now life is measured with its success. Richness is considered a blessing and poverty a bane. Our minds are attached with the wealth of the world. But poverty is a great blight upon our world. How we deal with wealth determines not only how we respond to the poor, but our own spiritual health. After all, it is the rich who will find it hard to enter the Kingdom of God, not the poor. This is because the possession of wealth binds us to the world, while giving it away sets us free. The purpose of the Church is not to wipe out poverty, but to bring healing to the whole person - body, soul and spirit poor and rich alike. According to St. John we should rather consider that it is the poor who are blessed and living a Godly life, and not the rich. After all, it is the poor of this world that God has chosen to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom, and not the rich (James 2:5). "Blessed are you poor," Jesus said, "for yours is the Kingdom of God." "But," he also said, "woe to you rich, for you have already received your consolation." (Luke 6:20-24). And, if we are friends with the world there is no doubt, we are the enemy of God (James 4:4). It is the poor and suffering, who are blessed of God. It is in fact the rich for whom we should weep. In their love of position, power, wealth and possessions they sow the seeds of their own destruction (James 5:1). We enjoy God's Grace abundantly in setting up our parish for a good run. People with unassuming participation, strive to build a noble, inclusive and disciplined congregation with all Kingdom values. All organizations began to function well. Choir gives a special beauty to our services. Enough services are arranged for the Passion Week. This year we are going to receive Easter with "Pasqua sinfonia" a melodious eve of worship and songs. Parish retreat is also set up early in the next month. We are here to build a good society for God, an act of obedience, humility and commitment. Be merciful to us, O God, be merciful... (Psalms 57:1). God Bless you all.

Genil Achen.

Greetings to dear all parishioners, Though the beginning is not as pleasant as you would like, yet in the end you will have sufficient opportunity to please yourself. On Hosannah Sunday people declare Jesus as the King of their life, to rule and control in all areas of life. The four days after that, we found the betrayal, pain, persecution and the crucification of Jesus Christ. The Easter will bring you the happiness & celebrate His resurrection. Let's us purify from all evil thoughts, jealousy and self-esteem on these days. It's my privilege to greet you all through this parish news letter as a Parish Secretary of St. Johns Marthoma Church in Kuwait, after it's formation in January 1st 2011. Now in Kuwait , we have 5 Mar Thoma parishes including ours and I personally believe that there are lot of opportunities & possibilities for a meaningful spiritual fellowship by knowing each other. During these days, all our official organizations have started functioning well. Our worships are well organized and the participation of our members are increasing day by day. Please pray for the successful growth of our Church and proclaiming our faith to our Mar Thoma Sabha. Please attend our worships once in a week, with your family. Also, request each and everyone to attend all other regular programs of our Church and Organizations. May God bless us all Johncy C.
