SUNDAY'S SCRIPTURES Act 10:34a,37- 43 "We are witnesses of all that he did, both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem." Psalm 118 This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice & be glad. Colossians 3:1-4 "If then you were raised with Christ, then seek what is above." John 20:1-9 "He saw, and believed." NOTES FROM THE PASTOR Easter Greetings to you and your family! Though Christmas seems to be more popular, with the gifts, the decorations, the music, etc., our celebration of Easter is even more central to our Catholic Christian faith, for if Jesus be not risen from the dead, then our faith is in vain, as St. Paul writes. But we do know and believe that He is risen and dwells among us. We celebrate this wonderful truth for 50 days, ending with Pentecost. May all the joy of Christ's first followers, which they experienced when they saw the risen Christ, be yours throughout this season! Special thanks to our staff, and to the many volunteers who worked so hard at our decorations and liturgies, as well as those who donated flowers, etc., to make our holy week and Easter decorations and liturgies so beautiful! YEAR OF SAINT PAUL For St. Paul, the risen Christ was the only Christ he encountered; he was not blessed to have had any interaction with Jesus as he walked the face of the earth. In his First Letter to the Corinthians, Paul dealt with the issue of people not believing in the resurrection of the dead, and in Chapter 15, he presents a strong teaching of the consequences of not believing in the resurrection, because this would imply that Christ is not risen, and then several consequences follow: Our preaching is empty, our faith is empty, we are false witnesses, our faith is worthless and we are still in our sins, and we are the most pitiable of people. But Paul, and we, know that Christ is risen from the dead, and in him we have hope of resurrection, too!! A Pentecost Retreat - April 16 - May 21 Every Thursday from 7- 9 PM - St Thomas More, Brookings Do you find yourself wondering: "How can I grow closer in my relationship with Jesus?" or "How do I tap into the Holy Spirit's Power in my life?" At baptism you received the Holy Spirit and His power. Confirmation brings an increase and a deepening of the baptismal grace to help us live our Christian life. At a Pentecost Retreat the Holy Spirit is re-awakened in our hearts. A love and hunger for the sacraments, scripture and prayer will increase in you. Through the series of talks, sharing and prayer you will come to appreciate, desire and experience the real presence of Jesus Christ in your life through the power of the Holy Spirit. For more information and to register contact Mike and Laura Kondratuk 605-692-8486 or email [email protected] Note: Cost is $25. Childcare is available upon request. Parish Outreach We have been helping a refugee family from Iraq with some furniture and small kitchen appliances. Thank you to all those that have helped in any way. They are pretty well set for the most part except they are still in need of a vacuum. If anyone has an extra they'd like to donate please get in touch with Sr. Marlene, 692-4361. Religious Goods: We now have rosaries, 1st Communion gifts and other religious goods available in a display case in the Social Hall. It will be open for business on Wednesday evenings during Food & Fellowship and on Sunday mornings during coffee & rolls. Other times, ask a staff member about purchasing items. CURSILLO Monthly Meeting: Sun., April 19, 7 pm, Rm C. WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS LOVE AND SUPPORT to Dave, Sue & Kim Karolczak at the loss of Dave's father, Frank Karolczak. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
