Please Consider: Musical theatre requires an enormous commitment of resources. The combination of live singers, dancers, orchestra members, costumes, lighting and scenery is very expensive to produce. Ticket sales cover only a part of the production costs. It is only through the generous support of individuals, corporations and foundations that we are able to keep ticket prices affordable. Donors at the Archangel, Angel, Patron, Donor and Sponsor categories receive special benefits and grateful acknowledgement in our season program. Your donation is tax-deductible for the amount over the value of the tickets. Please consider making a generous contribution to Summer Lyric Theatre. Thank you.

August 4 - 7

Get ready to be transported to a magical, wonderful world a world where the critics are in awe, the audiences are in heaven and the neighborhood is buzzing with excitement. Welcome to The Drowsy Chaperone. This multi Tony award-winning musical comedy is tons of laughs! It all begins when a die-hard musical theatre fan plays his favorite cast album, a 1928 smash hit called The Drowsy Chaperone, and the show magically bursts to life. You are instantly immersed in the glamorous, hilarious, and rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love. The Drowsy Chaperone pays tribute to the Jazz-age shows of the 1920s and the power those shows held to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and lift our spirits in times of sadness. "Show Off," The Cold Feets," and "Toledo Surprise" will have you tapping and singing all the way home.

July 14 - 17

An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's multi Tony award-winning fractured fairy tale, Into the Woods. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children. Thought-provoking and memorable songs such as "Into the Woods," "No One Is Alone," and "Children Will Listen" beckon you. So by all means, go to Into the Woods. Admire the view. But above all, listen.

June 23 - 26

Miguel de Cervantes, aging and an utter failure in his varied careers as playwright, poet and tax collector for the government, has been thrown into a dungeon in Seville to await trial by the Inquisition for an offense against the Church. Thus begins the journey that is Man of La Mancha a remarkable show and one of the great theatre successes of our time having been revived four times on Broadway. This multi Tony award-winning musical is a play-within-a-play, based on Cervantes' Don Quixote. We have a poignant story of a dying old man whose impossible dream takes over his mind. His dream is Everyman's dream. His tilting at windmills is Everyman's great adventure. Somehow, the footlights disappear, time is telescoped and the Man of La Mancha speaks for humankind. "It's All the Same," "Dulcinea," "I'm Only Thinking of Him," "I Really Like Him," "Little Bird," and "The Impossible Dream" remain in your thoughts and in your soul well after you experience the performance.
