Patient / Visitor information to help prevent further cases of sickness and diarrhoea.

Dear Patient / Visitor

You may be aware that there are many people suffering from viral diarrhoea and vomiting in the general population and this is now also being seen in hospital wards. We are trying our very best to minimise the spread and we are requesting that you help us in our efforts.

·

Do not visit if you or anyone in your household is affected by diarrhoea and / or vomiting until the last person has been free of symptoms for 2 days.

If you are a patient, please explain to your visitors that they must not visit if they have diarrhoea and / or vomiting.

·

Please be aware that you are at risk of picking up this tummy bug when visiting areas affected by it Children are not allowed on the closed wards that are affected with Norovirus. Please clean your hands with the alcohol gel positioned outside each ward on entering and leaving the ward. On entry to the patients bay/room wash your hands with soap & water. Repeat this on leaving. Please ensure that you use public toilets only and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Do not use the patient's toilets. If you are visiting someone suffering from diarrhoea and/or vomiting you are advised to wear aprons and gloves for your own protection. These will be provided for you by ward staff. Remove these before leaving a bay or room and dispose of them in the yellow bins in the bay or room. Please wash your hands thoroughly after removing these. If you are also visiting areas not affected by diarrhoea and vomiting, you should visit the affected area last. Only family and close friends are permitted to visit areas closed due to diarrhoea and vomiting. Please do not eat or drink in bays or rooms affected by diarrhoea and vomiting.
