Before First Use

Before using the product for the first time, clean all parts as described in the "Care and Maintenance" section.

To Use

WARNING: Never place anything except the Cooking Pot (J) into the Heating Body (B). NOTE: This product can cook many kinds of rice (e.g., sweet, soft short grain, firm long grain, soft long grain, milled, broken, brown, parboiled, etc.) and other grains, such as barley. 4

Cooking Rice: 1. Make sure the Rice Cooker is unplugged. 2. Measure the desired amount of raw rice using the Measuring Scoop provided. Rinse the measured rice by placing it into the Cooking Pot (or a separate container) and covering with water. Use the Spatula to stir the rice; a talc-like coating or starch will appear as a milky substance in the water. Drain water and repeat until the water is clear. NOTE: One measuring Scoop (5.4 fl oz/160 ml) of uncooked rice will make about 16 ounces (two cups) of cooked rice, up to a maximum of three Measuring Scoops (16.2 fl oz/480 ml) of uncooked rice. 3. Add the proper amount of water to the rice in the Cooking Pot. For every Measuring Scoop of uncooked rice, add the corresponding amount of water as indicated by the markings on the inside of the Cooking Pot. For example, when using two Measuring Scoops of uncooked rice, fill the Cooking Pot with water to the 2-cup mark (see Fig. 1) and this will make four cups (32 oz.) of cooked rice. For fluffier rice, add slightly less water. 4. If desired, add a small amount of butter or cooking oil to the water to help prevent sticking and to add flavor. 5. Make sure the outside of the Cooking Pot is dry. Insert the Cooking Pot into the Heating Body. 6. Mix the rice and water using the Spatula and cover with the Glass Lid. NOTE: For softer rice, let rice and water soak in the Pot 10-20 minutes before turning the product on. 7. Plug the Power Cord into a standard 120-volt AC electrical outlet. 8. Press the Power Button to begin cooking. The COOK Indicator Light illuminates red. 9. When the rice has cooked, the product will enter Warm Mode; the WARM Indicator Light illuminates yellow. The product will keep the rice warm until it is disconnected from the electrical outlet. NOTES: · In Warm Mode, the product will keep rice at about 122°F (50°C). The yellow Warm Indicator Light will remain illuminated, indicating continual activation of the heat preservation process. · For best results, let the rice sit 5-10 minutes in Warm Mode before serving. 10. When ready to serve, use heat-resistant mitts to remove the Glass Lid. Use the Spatula to fluff the rice, to serve directly from the product, or to relocate the rice to a serving dish/bowl for serving. 5

11. After removing rice from the Cooking Pot, shut the product off by unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Always unplug the product when it is not in use. Reheating Rice: 1. To reheat rice, add 1.5 fluid ounces (45 ml) cold water per cup (eight ounces) of cooked rice. 2. Stir to mix rice and water and replace the Glass Lid. 3. Press the Power Button. When rice has warmed, the product will enter Warm Mode, indicated by the WARM Indicator Light illuminating yellow. 4. When warmed rice has been removed from the Cooking Pot, unplug the product from the electrical outlet and allow the product to completely cool.

Using the Steaming Rack

NOTE: Use the Steaming Rack (included) to steam vegetables. 1. Clean and prepare vegetables. 2. Insert the Cooking Pot into the Heating Body. Add water until the water level is just below the bottom of the Steaming Rack. 3. Place a heat-resistant container (e.g., glass bowl, steaming basket) onto the Steaming Rack. 4. Place vegetables into the heat-resistant container and then cover with the Glass Lid. NOTE: Large vegetables can be placed directly onto the Steaming Rack. 5. Plug the Power Cord into a standard 120-volt AC electrical outlet. Press the Power Button. The COOK Indicator Light will illuminate red. 6. If more cooking time is needed, unplug the Power Cord, add more water, plug the Power Cord into the electrical outlet, and then press the Power Button again. 6

7. When vegetables reach desired doneness, unplug the Power Cord and carefully remove contents.
