ASD1 and ASD2 Aspiration Smoke Detectors

The ASD1 (single channel) ASD2 (dual channel) aspiration systems actively draws air from the protected area through a network of 25 mm pipes perforated with sampling holes. The system incorporates up to two conventional or addressable point detectors providing the ability for either redundancy or mixed detection strategies. Each channel can have a pipe run of up to 100 m. Both model options utilise a high performance aspiration and flow monitoring circuitry. The flow level is displayed on a 10 elements bar graph with adjustments for high and low flow thresholds. Flow failure is reported as a device fault.

Product features

The ASD provides a number of options as far as detection strategies are concerned. Firstly there are the detectors themselves where the Installer/Consultant can specify the same detector brand and range that is used to protect the rest of building thereby providing the simplest and most cost effective Aspirated Smoke Detector on the market today. The ASD detector is fitted with the most powerful fan in its class. It can be adjusted via programming and is capable of producing 200pa of negative pressure which is stronger than most of its full sized competitors. This fan has been integrated together with the flow sensing system to provide the most sensitive, accurate and useable flow sensor. This is displayed on the 10 segment bargraph that is provided for each pipe.

Series of ASD1 units on a conventional detection circuit

Schematic shows first and last units. Zone circuit wiring returned from last unit to first via Fault 2 relay contacts in each unit and terminating resistor or End of line unit (EOL) fitted to first unit as shown. Flow fault condition in any unit will break the connection to the terminating resistor (or EOL) and indicate a zone fault without affecting the operation of the detectors themselves.

CEA 4022 certified detectors used in the ASD1

The following detectors have been independently tested and certified for use in the ASD1 unit. The table shows the limits which should not be exceeded if installation is to conform to this requirement. All figures are based on the standard configurations. Pipe lengths are 50 m pipe with a fan speed of 9 unless otherwise stated.

Configuration 1: ASD1 with single pipe. Configuration 2: ASD1 with Tee and 2 pipes. Distance from unit to Tee must be max. 1m and pipes should be balanced i.e. equal length and equal number of holes. Significant reductions in pipe length may allow the fan speed to be reduced and/or number of holes increased. Results of such changes must be verified with the PipeTracer software. Other detectors and pipe lengths up to 100 m may be used if CEA 4022 certification is not requirement. Designs should be verified with the PipeTracer software to ensure that the performance is suitable for the intended application.
