New York, NY Thompson Hotels, in collaboration with Tribeca Partners announces the opening of Smyth, its fifth Urban Resort in Manhattan. Custom-tailored to its TriBeCa location, Smyth draws its inspiration from the vibrant neighborhood; offering an intimate hideaway of 100 guestrooms in a newly-constructed building on West Broadway and Chambers Street. The building marks Jason Pomeranc's second hotel to open in 2009, joining Thompson Lower East Side. "Smyth's atmosphere is meant to invoke a feeling of sensibility and refinement, embodying a classic sense of romantic elegance with contemporary influences, "said Pomeranc, co-owner of Thompson Hotels. "Conceptually named for the anonymity of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, we sought to provide a feeling of refuge; a comfortable and intimate destination for our guests." Renowned architects BBG designed Smyth incorporating massive windows with vertical accents of dark grey mullions, to offer panoramic views of the five-street junction below. Design duo Yabu Pushelberg, best known for their expertise in creating timeless interiors for luxury clients such as Prada, Louis Vuitton and Bergdof Goodman, were handpicked by Pomeranc to design the expansive lobby. Smyth is intended to represent a modern vision of sophisticated and yet understated elegance. Detailed craftsmanship fuses classic and modern, creating a unique contemporary style. Most notable is the eclectically sculpted lobby through the use of sumptuous fabrics and a mix of Brazilian modernist furniture and vintage pieces. Art by John Sparagana adorns each guest room, adding an essence of individuality through his collections of magazine pages hand worked into unique, deconstructed objects. Paintings by up-and-coming self taught Argentinean artist, Santiago Rubino, are featured in the lobby's interior, evoking ancient karmic beliefs in conjunction with modern street art. A similar amalgamation of diverse art mediums can be found in Pomeranc's Thompson LES Hotel, which showcases the visually arresting color field paintings of Peter Halley, photographs by Lee Friedlander, graphic paintings from Ryan McGinness as well as a photolithograph film still of Andy Warhol on the outdoor pool floor by muse Gerard Malanga. "At each hotel, and especially with Smyth and Thompson LES, we bring together diverse, creative visionaries to create a truly original style and experience," said Pomeranc. "It is this layering of artistic elements that makes our hotels contemporary and timeless." Pomeranc has brought in Restaurateur Frederick Lesort , the driving force behind some of Manhattan's most eclectic lounges and dining establishments, to open the Lobby Bar. Lesort's concept for Smyth's 24-hour room service menu is based upon a French style brasserie. In the spring of 2009, Lesort will open Jour et Nuit Restaurant & Lounge, which will serve cuisine inspired by the South of France. He will also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week, with an espresso bar offering artisanal sandwiches and pastries during the day and cured meats with alcoholic beverages at night. The bi-level space, designed by the AvroKO group, will provide an authentic French experience. The lower level Cellar Cocktail Lounge will offer a luxurious hideaway for guests and locals to imbibe on unique cocktails. Smyth offers 100 guestrooms, presented in a vintage wine tone, with rich walnut paneling, chrome accented furniture and hallways textured with maroon ostrich embossed leather walls. Marble bathrooms are complete with opulent Hans Grohe rain showerheads and fixtures. Signature suites offer floor to ceiling windows and private terraces with resonating Manhattan views. Each room provides robes by Frette, spa products by Kiehl's and linens by Sferra. Inroom pantries feature both Dean & Deluca snacks and Kiki de Montparnasse accessories.

Smyth's staff uniforms, designed by Helmut Lang, deliver a minimalist, chic and almost androgynous style, reinforcing the Mr. and Mrs. Smith identity. Previous fashion collaborations with Thompson Hotels have included; Rag & Bone, Rogan, Jennie Kayne and Rachel Zoe. Smyth is located at 85 West Broadway in the heart of TriBeCa. Hotel rates range from $275 for a standard room, $575 for a king suite, and $3,500 for the penthouse.
