All For God's Glory TheIsraelitesfacedmanyimpedimentsinthewilderness,andthroughthemtheylearnedthatGod's characterwasaperfectmixofstrengthandcompassion,justnessandmercy,power,andlove.They lackedfoodandwater,wereattackedbytheirenemies,andwereburdenedbysin,butGodmercifully helpedthemoutofeachpredicament.HewasaGodworthglorifying.Throughprovision,protection, andgraceGod'sglorywasrevealedtotheIsraelitesduringtheirdifficulties. Findingenoughfoodandwaterforamillionhungryandthirstypeopleinthemiddleofthedesertcan beaproblem.Thiswasaconstantpredicament,butGodprovidedforthemineachone.InExodus 6theyhadnofood,butGodprovidedbygivingthemmannaeachmorningandtamequailinthe evening. Another time, they had no water, so God sweetened the bitter waters of Marah and Elim (Exodus 5:22-27). Later, He miraculously provided by pouring water from a rock. His glory was provedthroughHisprovisionoftheIsraelites'needs. God'sglorywasalsoshownwhenHeprotectedtheIsraelitesfromtheirattackingenemies.Whenthe AmalekitesattackedinExodus7,GodshieldedthemthroughMosesandhisstaff.GodtoldMosesto sitonthetopofamountainwithhisstaffraisedhighintheair.Whenhisstaffwasabovehishead,the Israeliteswon;however,ifheletitdrop,theybeganlosing.GodthensentanangelaheadoftheIsraelites toclearapaththroughtheirenemiesforthem(Exodus23:20-33).InLeviticus26,Hepromisedthatif theIsraelitesobeyedHim,Hewouldsavethemfromtheirenemies,butiftheydisobeyed,theirenemies would conquer them. God's glory was tremendously displayed through the powerful defeat of the enemiesofHispeople. All humanity is under the curse of sin--the Israelites included. Mercifully, God demonstrated His gloryinmakingawayoutoftheircondemnedfuture:sacrifices.Sacrificeswereusedasatonementfor thesinsoftheIsraelites.Thereweresacrificesforguilt,sin,festivals,andfellowship.Differentreasons tosacrificecalledfordifferentsubstances,suchasanimals,grain,incense,andmoney.InLeviticus4-5, Hegaveadetaileddescriptionofexactlywhatthesacrificeshouldcontainandhowitshouldbecarried out.Throughthispractice,GodofferedarelieffromsinfortheIsraelites. Clearly,theIsraelitessawmuchofGod'sglorythroughtheyearsinthewilderness.Throughalltheir troubles--no food or water, trouble with enemies, and sins--God saved them. He provided for, protected,andforgaveHispeople,showinghisglorythroughabalanceofloveandpower.Ineach hazardoussituation,Godtookcareofthem.
