TD-SCDMA system architecture of PuTian constructs special 3G networks

LuYanling, Li Yanming, WuZhiyong Information techniques research academy of PuTian As a 3G standard which the IPRs owned by China, TD-SCDMA is becoming a shining star in the international 3G standard stage and one of three popular standards for its high spectrum efficiency, suitable for asymmetrical service, etc. Based on the research on 3G standards and aiming at the 3G market, Information technique research academy of PuTian assembles its company advantages and selects TD-SCDMA as its R&D direction, and provides peer to peer solution in whole to customs. As one of three popular 3G standards, when TD-SCDMA is designed, the compatibility is considered, besides the advanced smart antenna, joint detection and synchronous CDMA techniques are adopted; the network structure is kept the same as 3GPP. So its outstanding advantages are shown in large system capacity, high spectrum efficiency, high ability to mitigate interference and low cost, flexibility and applicability; the core network can be shared with other systems, for example WCDMA. It can construct a network independently or construct a network with other mobile networks. TD-SCDMA is composed of core network, radio access network and mobile terminals, the structure is as following:

TD-SCDMA can share core network with WCDMA, they almost have the same core network protocols, and the only difference is two bits of the interface protocol, which is set as different value to identify the network as TD-SCDMA or WCDMA. The core network equipment follows the specification of 3GPP R4, and the separate control/bear/service plane based on soft switch is adopted in the products designing. In such designing, the requirements of update, extension and evolution to next generation network are considered, the network can be constructed flexible and the SGSN and MSC can be combined or separated flexible. By adding the proper protocols in the called server, the multimedia service interworking between mobile user and the users in other networks can be provided. The radio access network is the most special part of TD-SCDMA. In access network, the advanced key techniques, such as smart antenna, uplink synchronization, multiuse detection, soft radio, and dynamic channel allocation and baton handover are adopted. RNC bear the most control algorithms of the network, the reasonable utilization of the radio resource, the optimization of system performance depends on these proper algorithms. The RNC of the system provided by PuTian can guarantee the higher efficiency with the same configuration. It has flexible structure, convenient to update, extension and maintenance, and lower cost. As the standard IuCS and IuPC interface adopted, TD-SCDMA RNC can be compatible to the core network products of WCDMA and provides seamless roam. The key techniques of radio access are implemented in Node B. In TD-SCDMA Node B products of PuTian, the advanced design concept is adopted, for the benefits of the customs; the cost of the equipment and the maintenance is decreased when all the advanced techniques are adopted to provide robust performance. The smart antenna and joint detection can reduce the interference, while the synchronous CDMA can reduce the interference more, all these can enlarge the system capacity and lower the cost. While the software radio make the software update easily and no hardware replacing need, which lower the pressure from the system update for operator. TD-SCDMA can meet the requirement of the network in a big city, rural and hot spot area. The Node B products of PuTian includes single carrier, 3 carriers and 9 carriers sector Node B, which can meet the requirement of hot spot coverage in a big city. The 9 carriers sector Node B can

provide capacity of 400Erl/Node B and suits for high dense service of business area. 3 carriers Node B can provide capacity of 120Erl/Node B, which can meet the need of the middle dense service of common city. The single carrier Node B can meet the service requirement of the suburban area. Besides the network equipment, PuTian also participates the research on 3G terminals, which fund the basis for future IOT test. The future 3G terminals will integrate the function of the computer, TV, MP3, digital camera and support a platform for multiple applications and provide plentiful services to meet the requirement of the subscribers. TD-SCDMA can construct a network independently, it can provide large area coverage and seamless roam, and guarantee the stability of the system. According to the special characters of TD-SCDMA, PuTian also develops the network planning and network optimization tools for TD-SCDMA based on the experience of research and development, and can guarantee the construction, optimization and operating stable of a big network. TD-SCDMA system can not only provide plentiful and flexible service, the 3G common services, such as communication type, information content type, transaction type, entertainment type, efficient usage type, but also some special and advantageous services: More accurate position location service: For smart antenna and uplink synchronization, it is possible to position by a single Node B. The position function don't need extra GPS module, thus the safety is guaranteed when the performance is enhanced with little cost. Based on the technique above, the position location of TD-SCDMA is more accurate. The position location is very important, such as the access to the entertainment, advertisement based on position, pilot, property management and geographical information, etc. The position information can influence the decision of the subscribers on the way to the destination, such as how to avoid the traffic jam, accident or bad weather, and change the destination and using the local resources, including gas station, supermarket, hotel and taxi. Asymmetrical service: from the point of providing data service, TD-SCDMA has its advantages, TDD mode can support flexible symmetrical or asymmetrical services of high data rate with least time delay. TD-SCDMA is also suits the mobile Internet service, group communication service, PTT service. The example of the services provided by TD-SCDMA is as following:

The features of TD-SCDMA, such as high spectrum efficiency, supporting multiple standard communication interface, unpaired spectrum, stable performance, compatible to the traditional systems, supporting high-speed mobile communication, the cost of the equipment, operating and maintenance, providing seamless roam between traditional system and TD-SCDMA guarantee the ability to construct a network independently. Today when 3G systems will be put into the commercial market in large scale, PuTian is experimenting the TD-SCDMA network directed by MII, and the peer-to-peer solution of TD-SCDMA can be provided to operators. It is believed that the good technique system and good ability of R&D of PuTian must make the TD-SCDMA be one successful commercial system.
