UWG General Rules Contemporary forms such as changquan and nanquan are not allowed in traditional events. Ineligible form will be determined by the head judge. Competitors who violate this rule will be disqualified from the event and moved to the appropriate contemporary event as long as the contemporary event has not occurred yet. Weapons used for Traditional events must be able to stand under their own weight. If violated, the competitor will be disqualified. A competitor may not compete with the same form twice. Competitors who violate this rule will be disqualified for all instances where the same form was used. Competitors may wear school or club t-shirts to compete. Logos printed on the backs of silks are permitted. However, promotions printed on the back of silks are still not permitted. Kneepads are allowed as long as they are worn under the uniform. Competitors must wear the appropriate uniform for each event. If in doubt, consult the head judge before competing. No unauthorized personnel will be allowed on the competition floor. All offenders will be escorted off and their admissions revoked. If the offender is a parent, coach, or associate of a competitor, that competitor will be disqualified. Should the offender be associated with multiple competitors, one will be disqualified at the discretion of the staff. In all such cases there will be no refunds. NANDU COMPETITORS - Failure to submit the Nandu Form on time will result in being taken out of the Nandu division and being placed in the respective non-Nandu division (i.e. you will be moved from Contemporary Nandu Long Fist to Contemporary Long Fist).

Experience Level Requirements Beginners No more than two years of wushu training. No International Wushu Federation International Compulsory forms or anything closely resembling one. This distinction is up to the Head Judge's discretion. Only linear forms will be allowed. No jumps landing in the splits and no landing on the jumping leg. Maximum of two jumping techniques allowed from the following: jumping front kick, jumping inside crescent kick, and jumping outside crescent kick. Only 360 degree rotation or less allowed. Cartwheels are permitted. No aerials, splits, or any other B level move.

Intermediate No more than four years of wushu training. No butterfly twists, aerial twists, gainers. No movements with more than 540 degrees of rotation.

Advanced To be eligible for the advanced all-around award, the competitor must compete in three advanced individual events. Details in the All-Around Champion section.

*Deductions: There will be a 0.3 deduction for a competitor every time he or she does not comply with the restrictions for Beginner and Intermediate levels. The points will be deducted from the final score for each deviation.

**Competitors must compete at a consistent skill level throughout the course of the entire tournament (i.e. one cannot compete in Intermediate Changquan and Beginner's broadsword). The skill level of a competitor is determined by total years since they began practicing Chinese Wushu (of any type), not by time spent learning a particular event. Breaks taken from training are not subtracted from years of experience. Violation of this rule is grounds for disqualification. Group Sets Awards Competitors will receive medals based on their scores. The highest score in each division will receive a gold medal, the second highest score will receive a silver medal, and the third highest will receive a bronze medal. If there is a tie, the competitor with the smallest sum of difference between the two dropped (highest and lowest) scores of his event shall be placed higher. All-Around Champions Only two all-around championship awards will be awarded, one for the all-around female and one for the all-around male champion. Competitors for the all-around championship will be determined based on how they place in each of their three events. The competitor with the highest average score for their best three events will win. If two or more competitors tie, the following criteria will be applied one at a time in the order listed until a winner is determined: 1. 2. 3. The competitor who has more 1st place finishes shall be placed higher. Only the forms that make up the averaged score (as calculated above) will be considered for this criterion. The competitor who received a higher score than an equally-ranked competitor in the same event shall be placed higher. All individual forms that the competitor competed in will be considered for this criterion. The competitor with the smallest sum of differences between the two dropped (highest and lowest) scores of each of his or her events shall be placed higher. All individual forms that the competitor competed in will be considered for this criterion. All group sets require a minimum of five competitors per group. External group sets may have a maximum of six competitors per group. Sparring sets require exactly two or three competitors per group. Music will not be allowed during any group or sparring set.

If after the third criterion, two competitors are still tied, they will both be awarded the all-around title.
