`Remarks by Mr Ryan Bain District Sales Manager Chevron Bahamas Ltd At a Press Conference Announcing The 10th Annual Texaco Bahamas Road Safety Speech Competition Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Good morning and thank you all, members of the media and our partners for joining us today. On behalf of Chevron Bahamas Ltd, I'm pleased to announce the 10th Annual Texaco Bahamas Road Safety Speech Competition. We have chosen as our theme "Texaco Bahamas: Stay Safe, Lose the Distractions". The finals of the Competition have been set for Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Performing Arts Centre of the College of The Bahamas. As is usual, competitors will be drawn from throughout our islands. As we have done in the past, we will be inviting the participation of top debaters and speech makers from the nation's schools and such youth organizations as Junior Achievement, Gentleman's Club, the Junior Minister of Tourism programme and Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers and the Rotary Club of Abaco.. As contributing to educational development is a priority for us, Chevron Bahamas and our partners will again award scholarships to the top three finishers: $10,000 for the winner and $6,000 and $3,000 to the students placing second and third, respectively. The nine finalists will also receive prizes and all participants receive trophies and certificates. In addition, the winner will serve as Texaco Youth Safety Spokesperson, and will play "a key role" in the National Road Safety Campaign.

We are grateful to have the partnership of Toastmasters, Junior Achievement, Scotiabank, Higgs & Johnson, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Bahamasair again. Over the years, such partnership has helped to underwrite the success of the competition making it one of the most prestigious of its kind. We will be counting on the skills of Toastmasters again to conduct the Judges Workshop and to ensure that the competition conforms to internationally recognized speech contest rules and the highest standards of conduct. The Texaco Speech Competition was designed to accomplish several important purposes. Ten years ago, the managers of Chevron's Bahamas operations, then known as "Texaco Bahamas", became concerned that road accidents and fatalities were increasing in this country. It was an even greater concern that many of the persons involved were very young people, our hope for the future of this country. The company was eager to find a way to contribute to raising awareness among them of this life-changing problem. The Texaco Road Safety Speech Competition was born of this goal. The Competition contributes to youth development in several ways. In addition to empowering young Bahamians to pass on life-saving messages to their peers, the initiative puts the spotlight on the obligation we all have to be community builders. The Competition also helps participants to build leadership skills. They have the opportunity to sharpen communications skills and are given a chance to display their talents and gain recognition on a national level. This year calls for very special celebrations as the tenth anniversary of the competition. We are inviting all past winners to share in what we are doing all we can to make happily memorable. We will give them exposure in our media releases and in other public relations efforts. The photos and bios of past winners and 2011 competitors will be posted on a special purpose website. But, importantly, their participation will help us to show what an impact the Texaco Road Safety Speech Competition and the scholarships awarded have had on helping natural leaders reach higher heights. It is our hope that it will encourage many other corporate groups to take up the charge and expand the number of scholarships available.

On behalf of Chevron Bahamas, I offer very best wishes to all who take part in the Texaco Road Safety Speech Competition for a rewarding participation. It is my pleasure to again thank our partners and all the service providers who are working to make the event the best ever. Thank you.
