Workshop: Museum Track Lighting Seminar Date: Description: Wednesday November 7th This one-day workshop offered on Nov. 7th will cover the nuts and bolts of how to maximize the track lighting systems so often used in museums. Topics will include the basic properties of light, making objects look as bright as possible with a small amount of light, emphasizing texture, reducing visible, UV and IR components, and lighting designer's criteria for bulb selection for different types of artwork. Participants will tour galleries and examine different lighting scenarios. Lunch will be provided. Wear good walking shoes. After lunch Scott will take participants to see some lighting scenarios at other Smithsonian Galleries on the National Mall, and the class will travel a few stops by Metro to see a quilt exhibition at the Renwick Gallery that recently opened (lighting designer: Scott Rosenfeld) Renwick: "Going West: Quilts and Community" Scott Rosenfeld, Lighting Designer, Smithsonian American Art Museum 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Note: Please arrive ½ hour before the beginning of the class in order to pick up conference registration packets. National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), National Mall 4th St. and Independence Ave., S.W. Washington, DC 20560 NMAI is located on the National Mall between the Smithsonian's National Air & Space Museum and the U.S. Capitol Building.
