THE RICHMOND SCHOOL SKEGNESS Terms 3 and 4 2009 Y4 Dear parents/carers Happy New Year. We hope you will find the following information useful in helping your child to have an enjoyable and productive spring term. Any knowledge, books or resources you have on our topics will be a great help to your child. Our Science topics are Friction and Moving and Growing. In Geography we are studying life in India with particular reference to a village called Chembakolli. This links with our RE topic, which looks at what Hindus believe. Our Art work will involve pattern work, painting and drawing linked to our Geography and RE topics. Our ICT sessions will link with other areas of the curriculum by producing patterns and using programmes involving writing for different purposes. For our Music we will be learning songs, composing simple pieces of music and also listening to some Indian music. During our daily Numeracy sessions we will be studying addition and subtraction, measuring, shapes, properties of numbers, multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, data handling and place value. In the Literacy hour we will be reading and retelling a variety of fiction from India, producing pieces of poetry and for our non-fiction focus we will be writing recounts, newspaper articles and other information texts about India. PE will be on Friday afternoons when we will have Gym in the hall so only T-shirt and shorts will be needed and on Thursdays we will be swimming. This will be the format until term 4 when we will be outside weather permitting, but further details will follow. Literacy homework will be given on Mondays and must be in on Thursdays. Numeracy homework will be given on Wednesdays and must be in on the following Monday and a further piece may be given on Fridays to be handed in on the following Friday.
