Spanish Verses 1.

Performance Notes This acclamation works best a cappella. Keyboard and guitar accompaniments are provided for use when necessary. The first refrain should always be sung in unison without accompaniment. The refrain may be sung first by a cantor or choir, with all repeating, or all may join in immediately. For the verses, either: (a) the tone and alleluias overlap slightly; (b) there is no overlap, but the verse is still divided into two parts within the Alleluias; or (c) the cantor sings the verse alone without the assembly singing the Alleluias surrounding the verse. In this case, the cantor could still sing the final two alleluia measures following the verse, leading back into the refrain. For the final refrain, the voices may use the same SATB harmonies as for the interpolations in the verses. Any verse from the Lectionary for Mass (Leccionario or Lectionarium) may be used with this setting.

Performance Notes For a short acclamation, sing once through. For a more extended gospel procession, use `invocations' 2 and 3 of the refrain in addition, or substitute other texts ad libitum. Percussion will be of great help in establishing the rhythm of this 7/8 piece.

* I believe in one God, the Fa-ther almighty, * maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. * I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father be-fore all ages. * God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, * consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. * For us men and for our sal-vation he came down from heaven,

All bow from here through the words and became man.

* and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

* For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, * and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. * He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. * He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. * I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, * who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. * I believe in one, holy, catholic and apo-stolic Church. * I confess one Baptism for the forgive-ness of sins * and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

* y por obra del Espíritu Santo se encarnó de María, la Virgen, y se hizo hombre;

* y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pi-lato, padeció y fue sepultado, * y resucitó al tercer día, según las Escrituras, y subió al cielo, * y está sentado a la dere-cha del Padre; y de nuevo vendrá con gloria para juzgar a vivos y muertos, * y su reino no tendrá fin. * Creo en el Espíritu Santo, Señor y dador de vida, que procede del Padre y del Hijo, que con el Padre y el Hijo recibe una misma adoración y gloria, * y que habló por los profetas. * Creo en la I-glesia, que es una, santa, católica y apostólica. Confieso que hay un solo bau-tismo * para el perdón de los pecados. Espero la resurrección de los muertos * y la vida del mundo futu-ro. Amén.

Performance Notes To broaden this multilingual setting of the Agnus Dei, the Cantor and/or choir could include other languages, as desired, with the congregation responding miserére nobis (dona nobis pacem). "The supplication Agnus Dei, is, as a rule, sung by the choir or cantor with the congregation responding; or it is, at least, recited aloud. This invocation accompanies the fraction and, for this reason, may be repeated as many times as necessary until the rite has reached its conclusion, the last time ending with the words dona nobis pacem (grant us peace)."
