Positioning: Why Allscripts?

Leadership and Vision:

Our vision at Allscripts is to not only become an indispensable part of the way physicians practice medicine, but to actually improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of health care. We are investing in "breakthrough initiatives", such as bringing Clinical Trial automation to our clients at the point of care, which in turn delivers better patient care while producing additional revenue for the practice. Allscripts led the launch of NEPSI (National Electronic Prescribing and Patient Safety Initiative) which provides free e-prescribing to every physician in America We serve in a leadership capacity in most industry standard committees and bodies. And we not only participate, we lead the discussions. For example we were a founding member of the EHR Vendors Association, and Allscripts CEO Glen Tullman is one of the CCHIT Trustees.

Workflow and Ease of Use:

A simple example of our superiority in workflows lies in one of the more critical components of an EHR: writing prescriptions. Allscripts is a Certified Gold Member with SureScripts. What this means is that, at the point of care, we deliver: Medication History: SureScripts Rx History service provides the most detailed information available regarding a patient's prescription record. Patient Eligibility: Identifies a patient's insurance coverage, which in turn drives the correct formulary. Allscripts has invested over $150M in ongoing development of TouchWorks.

Proven and accepted by the most demanding clients:

For large Enterprise-Level organizations there is no other company that can point to a referenceable install base of large multi-specialty customers that compares to ours.

Support:

Allscripts has invested more than any other company in support, which has translated into Allscripts being rated "Best in KLAS."

Implementation:

The results speak for themselves: The KLAS mid year report, the third party non-biased "Consumer Reports" of Healthcare Information Technology, ranks TouchWorks as #1 for EHRs. 100% of our clients that responded to a national survey said that they would not only recommend the Allscripts EHR to a friend, but would buy it again!

Integration and Interoperability:

Allscripts recognizes that connecting physicians with outside systems is critical to ensuring physicians have exactly what they need when providing care. We have put a lot of work into this and are considered the leader in interoperability, not just in adopting standards, but in driving and developing them on behalf of our clients.

Security:

Our focus on security is unrelenting as we know this is mission critical to clients and it simply can't be compromised. Of course, patient confidentiality and data security is vital to a successful large scale roll out in any organization. As part of our continuing focus on client security, we recently hired an industry security expert as our new Chief Security Officer.

Content:

In a partnership with Wolters Kluwer the largest health information publisher in the world (Facts and Comparisons, Clin-eguide, Ovid, Medi-Span, SKOLAR, Stedman's Medical Dictionaries, 5 Minute Consult) we jointly are investing $28 million in content, which includes over 20 physicians dedicated full time to develop and deliver Evidence-Based CareGuides and Note Templates.

Robust and unique portfolio of solutions:

Allscripts offers a solution to fit every segment in the market, from free eRx, to #1 in KLAS ambulatory EHRs, to in office medication dispensing. All of our solutions are focused on physicians and making their lives easy and the work more accurate and impactful.

Investment/Research and Development:

With greater than 10% of revenues being invested in our solutions, Allscripts remains at the top of all publicly traded software companies in terms of the % of money we reinvest in our products.

Financial strength:

Allscripts is publicly traded on NASDAQ under the symbol "MDRX" and enjoys a significant market premium in comparison to its peers Ranked #23 fastest growing companies in the U.S. by Forbes Magazine

Positioning: Clinical Trials

Solution Overview

Two Types: Allscripts Clinical Trial Network (ACTioN) and StudyManager Allscripts Clinical Trial Network (ACTioN) enables organizations to match patients for clinical trials together with other EHR-enabled practices from across the country. Being part of a larger network is important for attracting the most financially-rewarding studies because data from individual groups does not provide enough geographic diversity necessary to be significant for a national or global clinical research study. The network enables aggregated de-identified patient profiles derived from electronic health records. This data, in turn, is used for population health studies and clinical trials enabling practices to be awarded a greater share of the most important clinical research. StudyManager is the industry-leading clinical trial management system in use by more than 1,800 research organizations and over 10,000 research professionals. StudyManager is designed to make the process of conducting clinical trials more efficient, more organized, more accurate, and more profitable. By simply logging in to Study Manager, researchers and management can closely track clinical trial progress and financials, with access to real- time project information such as patient tracking, enrollment statistics, and financial data.

Key Positioning Statements

Statement #1: ACTioN, a FREE, service that can generate revenue improves quality and patient satisfaction Detailed support #1: No cost to join Detailed support #2: Practices can receive payments directly from clinical trial sponsors for participation, with little to no cost to research clinical trials individually Detailed support #3: 8 organizations received checks for~$20,000 for participating in a study sponsored by Astra Zeneca Example: Jackson Purchase Medical Associates Statement #2: StudyManger is a "practice management" like software, just for clinical trials. Detailed support #1: Track studies in real time Detailed support #2: Automates tasks associated with managing clinical trials Statement #3: Basic use of the TouchWorks applications allows for groups to track information and participate in clinical trials more easily Detailed support #1: Holston $3million+ per year Example: Jackson purchase

Positioning: Universal Application Integrator (UAI)

Overview

By bringing together disparate information spread across different locations, organizations, applications, and devices through the revolutionary UAI connectivity technology, TouchWorks ensures that physicians have just right, just-in-time information at the point of care. UAI is a unique software technology, that acts as a "switch" allowing various software and hardware devices to interface with the TouchWorks product. TouchWorks makes available to developers of 3rd party products a software developer kit from which they can "connect" to the TouchWorks application. These developers write to the technology of the UAI as opposed to working directly with the application. This means faster development times to create connections, enable faster installation at the client site, and easier maintenance in the long run. This is the only such product on the ambulatory EHR market, and is 100% consistent and supportive of our vision of an interconnected healthcare system.

Key Positioning Statements

Statement #1: Unique functionality Detailed support #1: This is the only such product that is on the ambulatory EHR market Detailed support #2: It puts the burden of integration on the device maker or 3rd party software vendor as opposed to the user, simplifying the user experience Example: WelchAllyn, Cardio Perfect Statement #2: Rapid Connection, and easier maintenance Detailed support #1: Because the interface is standard between a 3rd party product and the UAI, the time to "hook-up" a device or "integrate" a 3rd-party application is reduced by as much as 90%. Detailed support #2: No custom interfaces required, and no specific interface to maintain Detailed support #3: Easy way to incorporate specialty content rapidly and easily (ie Medflow, SmartID) Example: Welch Allyn says that they can integrate 12-18 months faster with TouchWorks than any other EHR

Positioning Overview: FirstFill

Allscripts recognizes the disparity between the number of written prescriptions and those actually filled, and has created FirstFill an innovative pre-packaged medication fulfillment solution complete with both medications and software for dispensing and inventory control. As retail health clinics propagate, with more than 2,000 clinics expected by 2010, physicians (particularly primary care) are at a risk of losing patients to competitors. Offering in-office medication is a patientcentric action designed to improve healthcare, retain patients and generate new revenue.

Solution Overview

Statement #1: FirstFIll can help improve clinical outcomes through increased compliance Detailed support #1: 30% of prescriptions are never picked up or filled, but with FirstFIll, patients immediately receive prescriptions inside the physician's office. Detailed support #2: Consultations and prescription questions are answered in the privacy of the physician's office Example: Compliance study done with Astra Zeneca showed huge improvements of compliance through on site medication dispensing Statement #2: FirstFill creates an opportunity for physician practices to generate additional revenue and patient retention Detailed support #1: For an average physician, FirstFill can generate $10,000 per year of additional revenue Detailed support #2: On average, offices can earn $4 per prescription. 84% of prescriptions are now locally dispensed. Example: Revenue generation study showed at one practice more than 50% of patients surveyed would be willing to pay a $3 - $10 surcharge for convenience above co-pay

Physician Adoption and Utilization Optimizing Assessment ROI Analysis Program

Allscripts is proud to extend its EHR expertise beyond basic implementation and support to help our clients maximize their investment in clinical automation solutions. Our most senior implementation and field personnel have developed a set of Service packages designed to accelerate and deepen the results our clients typically realize, financially, operationally and clinically. The Physician Adoption and Utilization program from Allscripts helps practices maximize their investment in TouchWorks NoteTM. Note is the core component to any health record. The program includes implementation strategies and assists organizations that need additional guidance, direction and education on the Note product. Also included within the program are strategies for practices to accelerate Note adoption and utilization. The Allscripts Optimization Assessment program provides specific recommendations that will empower physician practices to refocus resources where improvement is needed to begin workflow refinements and streamline processes across the organization. The Optimization Assessment is conducted onsite by an experienced clinical consultant or implementation and is typically four to six weeks in duration. Establishing a return on investment (ROI) is often critical to the long-term success and acceptance of a new technology solution, which is why Allscripts offers a Return on Investment (ROI) Analysis program. This program helps healthcare organizations better understand what to expect following the implementation of TouchWorks and how to maximize its use.

Positioning Overview: Pay for Performance

Overview

Pay-for-performance/pay-for-quality is gaining momentum and is here to stay. These programs are NOT uniform and come in many different flavors, as incentives are offered by many different groups -- from private insurers, to CMS, to state governments, to not-for profit grants. Because of the varying nature of these programs, the best way to plan to take advantage of P4Q is to ensure a practice has the reporting and business intelligence tools to meet the requirements of the various programs today, as well as the flexibility and robustness to meet the needs of future programs. Analytics is just such a solution. With the proper analytical tool, organizations can drive clinical excellence by managing clinical data to support pay for performance initiatives. Pay for performance (P4P) clinical measures are easily reportable using the powerful reporting of TouchWorks Analytics. In fact, standard reports have already been constructed for about 30% of the reporting measures for P4P allowing organizations to see ROI right out of the box! Through TouchWorks Analytics, physicians and administrators can produce daily clinical summaries that include careplanning statistics and most commercial P4P program measures. TouchWorks clients from Brown and Toland, to HealthCare Partners, to Facey have all realized multimillion dollar payouts in P4Q programs. TouchWorks analytics provides a great platform from which to report on PQRI metrics, the new CMS voluntary reporting program

Eye care professionals have unique needs in healthcare IT systems to support their workflows, including quickly capturing large amounts of data, support for glasses and contact lens prescriptions, integration with Ophthalmology and Optometry devices, and sophisticated drawing tools. To support these unique needs Allscripts has partnered with Medflow, the leading provider of Eye Care software for Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and Opticians, to introduce the TouchWorks for Eye Care solution.

Note that we will employ two different go to market strategies. For single specialty Eye-Care clinics and practices with more than 10 physicians, we will employ a reseller model wherein we will partner Medflow's EHR standalone, or with TouchWorks PM. We will not sell TouchWorks EHR into these groups. For multi-specialty groups in the TouchWorks size range, we will first sell and install TouchWorks EHR, and then install portions of the Medflow product as an add-on Module. We will be partially integrated at end of Q2 via UAI, and likely more fully in 11.2 at the end of the year (though 11.2 scope is not finalized at this point).
