Northwest Saskatchewan's Convention and Meeting Headquarters!

W

e offer twice the experience for visitors with two communities separated by the scenic North Saskatchewan River; the City of North Battleford and the Town of Battleford. Both communities derive their name from the Battle River which runs past the Town of Battleford. Before the advent of the white man, the Battle River was known as the "Fighting River" which marked the boundary between Cree and Blackfoot territory. Battleford is steeped in history becoming the capital of the North West Territories from 1877-1883, an area that includes two-thirds of the area of present-day Canada. North Battleford came into being when the Canadian National Railway built a rail line on the north side of the North Saskatchewan River. Today The Battlefords is at the crossroads of five highways, the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway (16) and Highways 4, 26, 29 and 40. It boasts a diverse economy from agriculture to manufacturing, oil and gas, and tourism. The Battlefords offers a blend of sophistication, service and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. An abundance of accommodations, meeting facilities, exciting attractions and a variety of restaurants and shops are available to suit all your needs. The Battlefords is a four-season destination. History comes alive at Fort Battleford, an 1876 North West Mounted Police post, and at the Western Development Museum's 1920's outdoor farm and village. Cree culture can be experienced through the paintings of internationally-renowned artist Allen Sapp or you can try your luck at the Gold Eagle Casino. "I wanted to take this opportunity to comment on the PeeWee-Bantam Provincial Championships held in The Battlefords. It was fantastic. The attention to detail right down to giving the little kids .25 for each ball retrieved was exemplary. The admission was inexpensive as were the prices at the concession. All part and parcel of making an event successful. The Opening Ceremonies were exquisite and emotional. The level of the competition was amazing and the fans were treated to exciting games. I cannot say enought about the wonderful event. We follow our granddaughter who plays for the Hustler Bantams and this has been the best event we've attended. Please convey this to the organizing committee - pats on the back all around."
