The Veterans Cookout in September at Perry Point VA Hospital went like clockwork. Joe Lancaster and his platoon of volunteers served up a great spread to over one hundred and fifty Vets. As usual the Vets ate heartily and couldn't thank the team enough. I can't emphasize it enough; volunteering for any of our various committees supports our Lodge and community. I feel serving our Vets though is one of the most rewarding. The thanks and appreciation expressed by our Veterans makes you realize how much it means to them to be remembered, to us it doesn't seem like much to put on a cookout, but it just makes their day. Thanks again to all the volunteers who made it a great day.

Elks Launch 2013 Scholarship Program

The Towson Elks have distributed information about the annual scholarship program to 22 local high schools. Each year our Lodge awards $9,000 to local students. Winners are also considered for additional awards at the State and National levels. Applicants can apply under either, or both, of the following categories: The Most Valuable Student Scholarship category is available to any high school senior who is a U. S. citizen. Applications are judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars and should be completed and submitted to the Lodge on or before December 7. The Legacy Awards category is available to high school seniors who are the children, or grandchildren, of duespaying Elks. Applicants compete against other students from Maryland. Applicants are judged on knowledge, charity, community service, and integrity. Applications are available online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars and must be submitted online on or before February 1, 2013. If you have questions, or want additional information, contact John Billett at 410. 599.1278, or email @ [email protected]

Say "Goodbye " hot summer..Hello cool refreshing "Fall" and let's begin by saying, the Bus Trip to Delaware Park was (as usual) a big success with great friends great fun! Now on a more serious note...our Charities that we support are in great need of our help, especially at this time of Economic crisis everywhere and this, of course, is what the Ladies of the Elks organization is all about . The events, Bus Trips, Dinners, Bar Bingo to name a few are fun and we are so grateful that our members and friends support them, and the bottom line is they and other events that we have do support our worthy causes. But the main thing that keeps our organization strong is our membership, and I am encouraging our present members to ask their friends if they would be interested in joining and what better recommendation would they need if they are your friends? If you know someone who may be interested, ask them to call me at 410-321-1323 and if they are eligible, we most certainly welcome them to the LOTE. Now, the fun thing Bar Bingo on Saturday, October 6th at 7:30 at the Lodge. Bring a friend (or two)"B" there.

Peggy Flannigan, Secretary The Ladies of the Towson Elks welcomes applications from wives, mothers, widows, and unmarried daughters of Lodge members in good standing. For information and application please contact Peggy Flanigan 410-321-1323
