Swiftwater reScue technician (SRT-1 & SRT-A)


September 12-14, 2011

The SRT1 course provides rescuers with the fundamentals of survival in moving water and is recommended for anyone who may be called upon to effect inwater rescues. Students gain knowledge in hydrology and river classifications, size-up, site control and scene management. Practical skills include self-rescue, swiftwater swimming and the fundamentals of shore, boat and in-water rescues. Additionally students are introduced to the basics of boat handling and the fundamentals of rope rescue including mechanical advantage and anchor systems. The SRT1 class also provides the foundation of the Swiftwater Rescue Technician training level. Swiftwater Rescue Technician is a mandatory training level for inclusion on a Federal Emergency Management Agency Swiftwater/Flood Search and Rescue Team at all Team levels. Prerequisite: Basic Swimming Ability


September 15-16, 2011

This course integrates techniques learned in SRT1 and ropes courses, taking the students beyond the emphasis on selfrescue to concentrate on victim rescue. Students are exposed to more complex water rescue situations including a mock night river rescue scenario. The three day course includes 4-6 hours of classroom instruction, followed by two and onehalf days of hands-on skill development. Course also includes a rafting trip down the Nantahala River. Prerequisite: SRT-1

Tim Rogers, Lead Instructor

Battalion Chief Tim Rogers is a 27 year veteran of the Charlotte Fire Department. During the course of his career, Chief Rogers was assigned as a company officer for rescue and haz-mat units and spent three years as the Technical Rescue Training Coordinator while assigned to the CFD Training Division. He possesses a degree in Fire Protection Technology from Central Piedmont Community College and has continued to further his education while completing various courses at and through the National Fire Academy and the Emergency Management Institute. Chief Rogers is a swiftwater rescue Instructor-Trainer; coordinator of his department's flood response and notification program; and serves as founding member of, as well as the training coordinator for, the North Carolina Emergency Management's Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (NC-HART) and the swift water boat operations programs. In 1998, and in recognition of his program development and response efforts, Chief Rogers was awarded the Higgins and Langley Memorial for Outstanding Achievement in Swiftwater Rescue. He went on to receive a second Higgins and Langley Memorial Award in 2002 for an incident that involved the rescue of two teens who were caught in swift water in Charlotte. A third Memorial Award was given to Tim in 2005 for his response as a NC-HART member while deployed during Hurricanes Frances and Ivan in North Carolina, and a fourth award for his work with the United Kingdom Chief Fire Officer's Association.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel no later than 60 days before the course start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel no later than 30 days before the start of the course, TrainingTECH1, Inc. (hereafter TrainingTECH) will retain 10% of the total course fee, and the balance shall be refunded to you. If you cancel within 30 days of the beginning of the course, you will not receive any refund, unless a replacement can be found. If a replacement can be found, TrainingTECH will retain an amount equal to 20% of the total course fee, and the balance shall be refunded to you. If for any reason, TrainingTECH has to cancel a course, you will receive a full refund. In the event of cancellation, TrainingTECH will notify all registrants as early as possible, but assumes no liability for expenses incurred by the registrant up to the time of the course. Courses will not be canceled due to weather. Participants should be ready for any and all field conditions and are responsible for their own protection from weather or thermal-related insult or injury. Any discount given for equipment purchased by a student who cancels his/her registration will be deducted from any refund due to the student.
