Looking For Leaders

Have you ever wondered... · about the ins and outs of Trinity's finances? · who decides what hymns we sing on Sundays? · how many furnaces are in our building? · who determines the Sunday school curriculum? · what happens at new member potlucks? · how Trinity's endowment funds are doing? · what YoCo is all about? Then please consider becoming a member of the church council or one of our committees: Finance, Worship & Music, Property, Children & Family, Outreach, Endowment, or Youth & Family. Serving in a leadership role provides spiritual growth, an appreciation for the workings of the church, and new opportunities to work with fellow members. For more information, contact Joan Anderson, council secretary, at 934-5317 or the church office at 934-4786.

Epiphany officially falls each year on January 6, but we'll be celebrating in worship on the preceding Sunday, January 2. This is the day we Christians celebrate the Wise Men (also known as "Magi") visiting the Christ child with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. During our Coffee Fellowship time, at 9:00 am, you will be able to enjoy some of our own home-made "Kings' Bread" a treat which many people eat to celebrate Epiphany in other parts of the world.

Our services will each be a festive communion worship celebrating Jesus' "epiphany"; that is, His "being revealed" to the nations. We first see this in the coming of the wise men to Bethlehem to visit the child Jesus.

Holiday Vouchers Update & "Thank You!"

Last year, holiday vouchers reached many adults and children in the Saint Peter area. Many thanks to your generous outpouring to people in need. This year, members of Trinity were able to raise $1,606.75 for people in need during these "Holy Days" of Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas. In addition to the funds we raised, Thrivent matched every three of our dollars given to the food shelf with an additional dollar increasing these gifts by an additional 33%. Many thanks to you, our members, as well as to Thrivent for your generosity!

January Newsletter

The Natwick Epistle

Resolution: a resolve or determination; the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.

January 2011

. . . .God forgives us day in and day out, over and over. When we fail, God is there to pick us up and dust us off in Jesus' grace. God is there, saying, "So, you've fallen. But, I make all things new in what I choose to do for you in my Son, Jesus. You are my child. Now go! BE my child!" Now, that's gracious tenacity. It is this sort of grace the kind of grace that God uses on us and for us every day of our lives that we must practice using on ourselves. In some ways, we can never hope to keep our own resolutions unless we learn to forgive ourselves for our own mistakes.

New Year's resolutions. Seems like any number of us make them. Resolutions can be about almost anything. They can range from losing weight, to exercising more, to spending more time with family and friends, to not procrastinate on things that need to get done. I'm sure that any number of people will break those same resolutions that they make in earnest at the beginning of the year. All too often, as soon as a resolution is broken, a person is tempted to think, "I've failed already. This certainly isn't going very well! Perhaps it is best not to make resolutions at all." But, resolutions aren't about perfection. They ARE about identifying the things that one wants for oneself in life. It's only natural to fail; and failure to keep resolutions shouldn't come as a surprise to any of us. After all, we're changing the rules on how we've lived life up to this time. It's likely that we will slip back into well-worn grooves. In fact, it's easier to slip into the old grooves than it is to carve some new ones for ourselves. At its core, `resolution' has, at its root, the word `resolve'. When someone has "resolve" to do something, there should be a sort of stubbornness to one's decision. Or, at least, there SHOULD be a stubbornness to their action; a firmness of purpose; a `stick-to-it-tiveness'. Like I said, resolutions aren't about perfection. They're about persistence. When it comes to the business of making resolutions prepare to fail. The important thing to bear in mind in the making of resolutions is knowing, is having a plan, about what one is going to do when one fails. You see, resolutions are more about tenacity, about getting up again and again, after we have fallen. In reality, resolutions take a lot of forgiveness of ourselves. . .

January 2011

May we each resolve to practice such grace within our lives. A Blessed New Year to each of you! Pastor Eric

Trinity Member Honored & Appreciated

A gift of $500 has been gifted to Trinity in great appreciation and in honor of our long time custodian, Barry Wood. Thank you and kudos to you Barry! You are loved!

Taking Down Of "The Greens"

What goes up, must come down. Yes, the Christmas season has come to an end and we've celebrated Epiphany. We need help to take down all of the greens around Trinity. If you are interested, sign up (or call the church office @ 934-4786) to be one of our "Christmas Clean-up Crew" to help us package up and put away our greenery for another year. We'll set a time that works best for our volunteers, check the narthex for a sign up sheet. Remember, many hands make light work; consider sharing two hours of your time to help with holiday cleanup at Trinity, your church home.

All Trinity members share in food preparation and serving duties for funerals and other church events throughout the year. The membership has been divided into 13 groups with designated coordinators for each month. This allows one group to have a month off each year. Groups move up one month each year as well, so that you are not serving in the same month each year. This list is also used to secure ushers. When your assistance is needed, a coordinator will contact you. January 2011

We received our second check in the middle of December from "". The check total was $142.58 and will be used towards Youth and Family Ministry in our congregation. We're hoping to double that amount this next year but we need your help! Think of it! How much could be generated if every member of Trinity earned a penny each time they searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support Youth and Family ministry here at Trinity? Well, it can! And it does! is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up! is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Just go to and be sure to enter "Trinity Lutheran Church Saint Peter" as the charity you want to support. And, be sure to spread the word!

4th Annual Fun & Fellowship Church Bowling League Begins

Bowlero Lanes Bowling Center is again giving area church members an opportunity to get together and socialize with each other and have some fun. All levels of bowlers are invited to join. League starts on Monday, January 10th starting at 7:00 pm. Four person teams with any mix of men or women. Non-Sanctioned league - short league. To sign up or get more information, call Bowlero Lanes at 934-2982 or see the flier on the bulletin board in the church narthex. Don't miss out form your team now! It's a great way to meet people and get to know other church members.

Warm up with a mug of Fair Trade Coffee or Tea! We know many of you have discovered and enjoyed the Fair Trade coffee, tea, chocolate, and other items that are available for sale in the church narthex by the Library. Consider sharing a cup with a family member or friend during one of these cold winter days. If you've never checked out the Fair Trade display in the narthex, then please do so! By choosing to buy fair trade products, we ensure that farmers in developing countries earn enough income to adequately feed and care for their families and communities. What a great way to help people out while enjoying the fruit of their labors!

Extra "Time & Talent" Forms Are Still Available In The Narthex

If anyone needs another one or two forms for other family members to fill out, you can find them on the counter in the narthex. Completed "Time & Talent" forms can be left in the church office anytime. A labeled, wood tray is set beside my desk for the completed forms. It's our intent to update every member's information in our system. Thank you very much for your cooperation in submitting all your information!!

for February is Saturday, January 15th. Any committees or individuals that have information for the February newsletter need to have it turned in no later than Saturday, January 15th. Thank you so much!

Bake Sale Thanks

Many, many thanks to all who baked and all who helped with our St. Lucia Bake Sale. The variety of baked goods was impressive, our workers were dedicated and we had many satisfied shoppers. The proceeds were shared with Trinity Youth, each of our organizations earning about $200. Despite the wintery weather we had a successful sale and we couldn't have done it without each of your contributions. Thank you so much.

Thankoffering Sunday

January 2011

Sunday, January Trinity Women will conduct the worship service as part of their yearly "Thankoffering" service. Thankoffering envelopes will be available for anyone wishing to contribute to this special offering to the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELCA). Thank offerings help Women of the ELCA to reflect on their ministries and how they have been blessed. We have so much to be thankful for. These offerings make up part of the organization's annual gift to the ELCA, support programs and services of WELCA and help the church reach out in ministry worldwide. Thankoffering boxes are available to take home for anyone wishing to have a means for giving thanks during the coming year. Please find both envelopes and boxes on the counter outside the office. Thank you for participating.

Advent Brunch

Many Gifts Gathered

Thank you, thank you for giving so generously to the patients at the Regional Treatment Center for their Christmas gifts this year. Your response was so heartwarming. Along with your donations Trinity quilters gave 8 quilts, as we heard that quilts are treasured by the patients. Please know your generosity is so much appreciated by those who would otherwise be forgotten.

Early Registration Due

The last date for early registration for the Triennial Gathering is January 7!! If you are thinking of attending, call Kay Mowbray, 934-3170, for more information.

We were very sorry to have to postpone the brunch due to the weather. We know some of you who had planned to come on the 11th could not come on the 18th. The Gustafson room was beautifully decorated with reminders of Christmas in the past, a delicious brunch catered by Donna Rydeen was savored, the children's choir sang for us and Christmas memories were shared. We give special thanks to Bea Martinson, Helga Haedt, Marilyn Roberts and Rosemary Mickelson for the memories they brought to us. Donna Rydeen, our caterer, so willingly gave her quiche recipe for us to share with you. Enjoy! It is delicious. Breakfast Quiche 9 inch pie shell unbaked ½ pound pork sausage 1 cup broccoli 1 ½ cups shredded cheese 6 eggs 1 ½ cups half and half Salt and pepper to taste Brown pork sausage. Blanche broccoli in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Beat eggs, add half and half. Layer meat, broccoli and cheese in pie shell. Pour egg mixture over all. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until eggs are set.

Birthday cards are sent to persons 80 years and older, congratulatory cards to families with new babies, get well cards to those who are ill and sympathy cards to those who have lost a loved one. We offer many thanks to Dee for the many years she has kept up this faithful service on behalf of Trinity Women.

Appointments are recommended but not required; donors with appointments donate first. To schedule an appointment or for more information, please call River's Edge Hospital & Clinic at 931-2200. Or call Lori at 931-2574 with ?'s. Thank you to all the parents who have already hosted an event. Stay Tuned for the next Faith-4-Life event.

When you sponsor a Sunday school room by making a donation, you and/or your family will get your name posted by a classroom. Donation slips and more details can be found in the narthex. You may leave your donation in the church office.

We discovered a few weekends ago with the cancellation of the program's dress rehearsal, Sunday school on the 12th, and the rescheduling of the Christmas Program that our means of communicating this important information was not as clear or as smooth as it could've been. In the future, we will make every effort to include this information on Trinity's website at Please check it often, especially during inclement weather, as we will attempt to make changes as quickly as these decisions are made. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
