September 22, 2004 Dear Partners, In the past our communication with you was limited to scheduling surveillance audits. This is probably the first time we are interacting in this manner. We have always tried to add value through our audits, as we believe that the audits need to be beyond plain compliance to the ISO standards. We now plan to introduce a new concept wherein we would start sharing with you information regarding significant changes and happenings in various organisations that are part of our now large umbrella of certified companies. Please rest assured that any information that is a part of these mailers would be included only with the express permission of the organisation concerned. We seek your active participation in this concept and look forward to receiving your inputs with respect to information about your major improvements, any new awards, TQM approaches, significant changes, new products, expansion activities taking place etc. The information should be summarised into a paragrap h or two and should be as concise as possible. We assure you of our contribution to this mailer by way of information about new clients, new certification systems, new initiatives, etc. These mailers will be sent through email to the Management Representatives of the organisations. TÜV Happenings Accreditation: At present TÜV Suddeutschland is accredited by the Deutsche Akkreditierungs Rat (DAR), which is the accreditation body for Germany, for organizations operating in unregulated areas and by ZLS, the accreditation body for notified areas as per the European Union Directives. We are also accredited to grant Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) certification, which is the accreditation body for USA and JAS-ANZ, which is the accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand. We have successfully completed the audit for NABCB accreditation, which is an Indian accreditation body. We are now awaiting NABCB board approval. We were also audited by Trägergemeinschaft für Akkreditierung (TGA) for DAR accreditation in early September. We have passed the audit successfully. Corporate Identity: As part of its reorganisation plan, TÜV SÜD Group has strengthened its umbrella brand and has given its Corporate Design a radical make-over We were earlier known by different names in different parts of the world. The logo and slogan have also changed. For many years, the blue octagon has stood for competence, certainty and quality. Our certification mark is a globally recognised symbol that guarantees objectivity and neutrality in all areas of life. People all over the world trust the test seal as a symbol of quality, at all times and in all places. It gives our customers certainty and is a basis for their success. Thus we have used the certification mark as the TÜV SÜD Group logo. Our core abilities form the slogan: "Competence. Certainty. Quality". New Offices We have recently opened satellite offices in Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Nasik, Chandigarh and Lucknow. We now have 11 branch offices and 7 satellite offices. We will shortly be opening an office in Indore. New Products We have diversified our product offering by becoming more active in the product certification area, food safety area, TPI and customised solutions for large clients. We have also started offering CDM audits. A Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) audit is based on the guidelines defined by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its main purpose is to verify emission of green house gases calculated in terms of Carbon Dioxide equivalent. CDM was created as part of the December 1997 Kyoto Protocol to lower the overall cost of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions released to the atmosphere, and to support sustainable development initiatives within developing countries. Training programs: We intend to organise one-day training programs on Internal Quality Auditing and

Effectiveness on a regular basis. The aim of these programs is to clarify the concepts of Internal Auditors and MRs on the Internal Audits. The programs will focus on IQA, various types of audits, identifying corrective actions, making the internal audits meaningful and one that adds value to your organisation.

News from the quality certification arena ISO offers free -of-charge ISO 9001:2000 'auditing kit' online Guidance modules on specific aspects of auditing ISO 9001:2000 quality management systems (QMS) are available free of charge from ISO and others are being developed. (The modules are available online only). Short, easy to read and understand, the guidance modules that make up the "auditing kit" adopt a practical, "how to" approach. They have been developed mainly for certification body personnel carrying out audits of quality systems for organizations seeking an ISO 9001:2000 certificate as independent confirmation of their implementation of ISO's well-known standard. The guidance modules are not endorsed by ISO and are not a product of its standards-development processes. The documents a intended to provide additional assistance to ISO 9001:2000 users, without re modifying any of the requirements of the standard. The documents are being developed by the ISO 9001:2000 Auditing Practices Group (APG) established by ISO (International Organiza tion for Standardization) and the IAF (International Accreditation Forum. In our continuing efforts to improve the quality of our services, we are in the process of conducting a Customer Satisfaction Survey. Mr. Kapil Hingorani and Mr. Vishal Ahuja, Management students of ICAR, are conducting the survey on our behalf. The intention of this survey is to identify trends and correct any problems that the trends may indicate. The comments will be reviewed, collated and presented to our steering committee, which will then suggest corrective actions to improve our processes. The results of this survey will not be revealed to the auditors who audit your organisation. We request you to actively participate and give us your valuable feedback.
