White Oak River to Haywood Landing

Sunday, February 10, 2008

Trip Coordinator: Joanne Somerday [email protected] phone 252 633 2330

TRIP DETAILS: We will meet at the White Oak River Quarry Lakes at 10 am to drop off our boats and shuttle the cars to the take out at Haywood Landing. The trip will be approximately 9 miles. Bring along something to drink and pack a lunch. SKILL REQUIREMENTS: All levels are welcome but you should be able to paddle for

approximately four hours. With a stop for lunch we should be off the water by 4. Please be prepared for cold weather and wear clothing that is not cotton, and in layers, so that you can take off some clothes if the day begins to get warmer. Suggestions might be a hat, spray skirt, socks, gloves and something to keep your ears warm. Paddling in the winter is very pleasurable if you are dressed for the cold. All club paddles require you to wear a suitable PFD.

DIRECTIONS to Quarry Lakes are as follows: From New Bern, go south on US 17

approximately 16 miles. After the red light in Maysville, turn left at the first break in the guardrails at the Rock Quarry Lake Fishing sign...Follow the signs 0.6 miles to the shelter. We may need to pay $2 per boat for a launching fee. Go 0.3 miles to the boat ramp at the end of the road.
