Texas Agility Shoot-Out

Ever wonder where your dog ranks against ALL the other Agility dogs in the state? Now's your chance to find out! Enter the Texas Agility Shoot-Out competition! Dogs entered in this competition will compete in 8 classes from a variety of different agility venues. After the completion of all 8 classes, an overall Champion and Reserve Champion from each height class and Division (as specified below) will be named. Dogs must compete in all 8 classes to be eligible for the overall awards. Dogs that wish to enter only some of the Shoot-Out classes are welcome, but are not eligible for the overall awards.

Jump Heights

We will not be measuring any dogs at this trial. Height specification is based on the honor system. Please enter your dog at whatever jump height they normally compete in at your primary agility venue. Please note that there are no separate class placements for Vet/JH dogs. For example: If your dog is a 20" vet jumping 16", he will be placed with all the other 16" dogs, regardless of whether they are Vets or not. If you wish to jump your dog at a lower jump height than he is normally eligible for, then you can enter as For Exhibition Only, at any jump height you choose. We will be combining jump heights for placements into 5 classes as follows: 4/8, 12, 16, 20/22, 24/26.

Divisions/Levels of Competition

We are offering 3 levels of competition (hereafter referred to as Divisions) at this competition. All courses will be exactly the same for all Divisions with the exception of Long Arm of the Law, where we will have 6 weave poles for Deputy and 12 for Sherriff. Deputy This Division is for dogs competing at the beginner level of competition in whatever agility venue you normally compete in (i.e. Novice, Starters, PI, etc.) at the time of the trial closing date. Use your status in the Standard-type class as your guideline, i.e. if you are in Starters Standard, but Elite Jumpers, you would be eligible to enter the Deputy division. However, you may choose to be in the Sherriff Division if you wish. Sherriff This Division is for dogs competing at the intermediate or advanced level of competition in whatever agility venue(s) you normally compete in (i.e. Open, Elite, Excellent, Advanced, Masters, PII, PIII, etc.) at the time of the trial closing date. Use your status in the Standard-type class as your guideline, i.e. if you are in Advanced Standard, Elite Gamblers, and Novice Jumpers, you must enter the Sherriff division. For Exhibition Only We are offering FEO entries in each class if you would like to run your dog but not compete for any placements/prizes. If you enter FEO, you may jump your dog at whatever height you like.

Prizes and Awards

Texas Agility Shoot-Out Classes Each individual class of the Texas Agility Shoot-Out will be placed and ribbons awarded. You need not be entered in the Overall competition to be eligible for these awards. The Overall Champion from each Division and Jump Height Class will receive a Champion rosette and a CASH prize of $75 plus a percentage of entry fees received. The Overall Reserve Champion from each Division and Jump Height Class will receive a Reserve Champion rosette.

Scoring

All classes will be judged according to the rules below. Classes will be scored as Time Plus Faults, or in the case of Wild Wild West and Texas Hold `Em, Points Then Time. Contact up-side zones will not be judged. Refusals/Run-Outs will not be faulted. The Table will be used only in Long Arm of the Law. Dogs may take any position on the table as long as all 4 paws are on the table. The following faults will be assessed 10 points per occurrence: knocked bar, off course (1 paw rule), missed weave pole, missed down-side contact zone. Failure to Perform will be assessed 30 penalty points for the first occurrence, Elimination for the second. Training in the Ring will be permitted, but will be assessed an Elimination. You will have 60 seconds in the ring and then you will be whistled off the course. Maximum course time will be enforced. Obstacle Specifications The obstacles that will be made available to the judges are: Dog-walk, A-Frame (set at 5'6"), Teeter, Table, Closed Tunnel, Open Tunnel, Weave Poles (22" spacing), Non-Winged Hurdles, Winged Hurdles, Tire, Double Bar Hurdle, and Triple Bar Hurdle. A-Frame and Dog-walk are SLATTED with 42" contacts.

Brief Class Descriptions

For more information about the below classes, please refer to the rulebook of the venue from which the class was borrowed. The rules outlined in the Scoring section of the premium take precedence in the case of any conflicts. Long Arm of the Law This class is based on the AKC Standard class (www.akc.org). The course will consist of a numbered path over all the different type of obstacles normally seen at agility competitions. The fastest dog with the fewest faults wins. Texas Hold `Em This class is based on ASCA Gamblers (www.asca.org). There is a 30-second point accumulation opening period with a path of the handler's choice (no obstacle can be performed more than twice for points). There is then a short numbered sequence of obstacles worth a pre-specified amount of points that the dog must complete at a designated distance away from the hander before time expires. The dog accumulating the most points wins. Jumpin' Judge Roy Bean This class is based on CPE Jumpers (www.k9cpe.com). The course will consist of a numbered path over jumps and tunnels only. The fastest dog with the fewest faults wins. Run for the Border This class is based on NADAC Tunnelers (www.nadac.com). The course will consist of a numbered path through tunnels only. The fastest dog with the fewest faults wins. Wild Wild West This class is based on USDAA-style Snooker (www.usdaa.com). There is an opening period where the dog may perform a "Red" jump followed by an obstacle of another color/point value of the handler's choice. This is repeated 3 times and then the dog proceeds to a numbered closing path of 7 obstacles worth an ascending point value. Point accumulation ends when the dog makes an error or time expires. The dog accumulating the most points wins.
