A & E GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS Part I: General

1.1 Work Included 1.101 Furnish and install a complete microprocessor controlled voice communication system as described herein and shown on the plans. The system shall include power supplies, master control stations, tamper resistant substations, outdoor stations, elevator car station kits, cabinets, special mounting boxes, terminal boards, cable, connectors and accessories necessary for a complete operational system. Scope of work shall include the security intercom for the control rooms, entryways, stairwells, elevators, parking areas and gates, with access to audio paging for the whole facility, as shown on the plans. (Note to Specifier: Indicate exact scope of work.) 1.2 Contract Documents 1.201 All equipment and work specified in this section shall comply with all the General Conditions of the contract documents.

1.3 Related Work 1.301 1.302 1.303 The communications contractor shall coordinate the pulling of cable, provision of necessary power, and work with other contractors and trades where necessary. All conduits, raceways, pull boxes, standard boxes, and special boxes provided by intercom manufacturer, (and cable) shall be installed by the Electrical Contractor. Installation of the communication systems shall be coordinated with the installation of other related systems; i.e., Access Control, CCTV, Security Alarms, Telephones, Elevators, etc. (Note to Specifier: Indicate other related systems.) 1.4 Quality Assurance 1.401 Installation shall comply with all applicable codes, and standards set by NEC, EIA and NFPA. System shall be CE tested and certified to European Standards EN50081 (emissions) and EN50082 (immunity). Power supplies shall be UL listed. All equipment shall be new, in current production, and the standard products of one acceptable manufacturer.

The manufacturer shall guarantee the availability of parts for a minimum of seven (7) years from date of shipment. The manufacturer shall be able to demonstrate the features, functions, operating characteristics, and clarity of sound to the owner, or owner's representative (if required). The system shall be installed by a factory-authorized and trained Communications Contractor.

The system shall include a factory warranty that equipment is free from defects in design, material, manufacturing and operation. The Factory Warranty period shall be for thirty-six (36) months from date of shipment. The Communications Contractor shall guarantee the equipment, wire cable, and installation for one (1) year from date of acceptance. The Warranty shall not cover malfunctions or damages caused by misuse, abuse, neglect or acts of nature.

1.6 Submittals 1.601 1.602 Shall include equipment list, system description and data sheets on all equipment to be furnished. Shall include all data and block diagrams necessary to evaluate the function, quality and configuration of the proposed system.

Part II: Products

2.1 Acceptable Manufacturers 2.101 The system as described herein is based on the PRO700 Exchangeless Intercom as manufactured by STENTOFON/Zenitel Group, Kansas City, Missouri. The Pro700 meets all requirements of the specifications and shall be considered as the acceptable Base Bid. Any substitutions must meet all requirements of Prior Approval, as outlined in the contract documents. Substitutions that meet Prior Approval requirements must be listed as an Alternate.

2.2 System Description 2.201 The purpose of the Security Communication System shall be to provide two-way hands free voice communication capability as required to support operational efficiency, safety, and building security. The system shall be a microprocessor-controlled intercom system with maximum of looped (3) pair cable to each station, (2) pair required for basic system design and extra pair is required if program distribution is needed or wanted.. The system shall be capable of "duplex," hands-free operation at both the initiating and receiving stations, and include digital displays at selected master control stations. System capacity shall include software to allow for: _____40______ stations/numbers, ____1____ speech channel, and ___1___ audio program channel. The scope of the system shall include all features and functions described herein and all equipment shown on the plans. The system shall be capable of adding all optional features and components listed in the specifications, even if not initially included or shown on the plans.

2.3 System Configuration 2.301 2.302 2.303 The system power supplies, interfaces, other accessories, and main distribution board etc., shall be located: (in the telephone equipment room.) Masters shall be: Desk, wall, or rack mounted as shown on the plans. Substations shall be located in elevator cars, entryways, parking levels etc., as shown on the plans. Elevator car substations shall be installed by the elevator company. (Note to specifier: Indicate other project requirements.) 2.4 Standard System Features 2.401 Master-to Stations Calls. The system shall allow any and all masters to call any and all other stations in the system (unless specifically programmed with restrictions) by simply dialing a two digit number. All standard calls shall connect immediately, after sounding a connection tone, and illuminating an LED (unless receiving station is in the "do-not-disturb" mode), and hands free "duplex" conversation shall be possible. Duplex/Manual Operation. Once call connection is established, normal conversation shall take place in the "duplex" mode, whereby each person may talk "hands-free." Each master shall have a manual talk "T" button that when used shall control the direction of the conversation. (Press to talk, release to listen.) Momentarily depressing "T" button shall restore duplex mode.

Call Annunciation. Call requests to selected masters shall be registered in the digital display in the master. Display shall indicate extension number, queue position and number of calls in queue. Audio reminder tone shall sound every (3) seconds. Programming. The system shall allow programming each station in the system with Dip switches. Programmable features shall include: changing the directory numbers of stations; including (or excluding) the station in All-Call and up to two (2) Group Calls; assigning priority levels to stations and programming all substation call keys. Substation Programming. It shall be possible to program up to (39) substations to call up to (3) master control stations. Calls shall be registered by: pressing the call button on the substation, activating a remote control function or by means of the (optional) automatic sound detection module. Substation Calls. Substation button(s) shall be programmed to originate call request calls to specific master stations. The call request shall indicate on the master with a tone (repeated every 3 seconds) and an identification number in the digital display. Call Request Acknowledgment. When call is place at substation, the LED shall continue to flash and a tone shall repeat every (10) seconds until the call is answered. Parallel Call Annunciation. The system shall allow substation calls to register on and be answered from up to (3) masters with digital displays. Once call is answered, the call in display shall automatically be deleted from the other masters. Automatic Call Back. If the conversation channel is busy, it shall be possible to place a call and activate an "automatic call back" by dialing an additional digit [8]. Connection shall require initiating station to accept the call by pressing the "M" button. Hurry-Up Tone. System shall allow selected stations to call a busy station, give an "urgent" warning tone to both busy parties by pressing a single digit [0]. Priority Override. The system shall allow selected stations to be programmed so that pressing the digit [0], as described above, shall give an "urgent" warning tone to both parties, disconnect the busy conversation, and allow two-way communication with the called party. All-Call Announcements. All master stations shall be able to initiate an All Call page to all other stations in the system. It shall be possible to remove stations from receiving this All Call, and restrict stations from initiating All Call, through programming. Group Call. All master stations shall be able to initiate selective paging to predetermined groups of stations in the system. It shall be possible to remove stations from receiving Group Calls, and masters from initiating Group Calls, through programming. A station may be a member of (2) groups in the system.

Overhead Paging. All master stations shall be able to dial into one, or more, voice paging system(s) through a page adapter, amplifier and speakers. Zone Paging. Multiple paging zones or groups of speakers shall be dial accessed from any master, by dialing the appropriate 2 digit number. Reply Feature. A person hearing an All Call or Group Call page shall be able to begin an immediate normal hands-free conversation with the person who initiated the page, after pressing the answer code, [ 8 ], on any master station. The paging and reply feature shall automatically disconnect after (60) seconds. Volume Controls. The basic sound volume of each station shall be adjustable at each standard station with a digital, continuously adjustable volume control easily accessible on the front. Volume control range shall be 23 dB. Tone Signals. All features and functions such as: call connection, busy, all call, group calls, etc., shall be accompanied or preceded by a distinguishable tone. Silent Call. Audio monitoring shall be possible by enabling silent calling on selected masters. When enabled a master shall be able to silently call and listen through a selected substation, or activate the automatic monitor to scan through selected substations. Microphone Mute. During a conversation, a person shall be able to momentarily block the microphone on any master by holding down one button [the "0" digit key]. Do-Not-Disturb. All standard master stations shall permit any user to put his station in the "privacy" mode by dialing "99". When in privacy mode, an incoming call shall sound a unique "privacy tone" at both the initiating station and station being called. Call may be answered by momentarily pressing the "0" button. Station Numbering. The system shall allow programming numbers of all stations in the system. The 2 digit numbers (10 - 49) shall be set at each station with Dip switches. Feature Numbering. The system shall allow feature numbers and access numbers to be programmed at each station with Dip switches. Music/Information Distribution. The system shall allow one program channel for music or information announcements to be distributed to all stations. Each master may select the channel by simply dialing a code [96]. The program shall be interrupted during intercom calls and return automatically upon completion of the call. Remote Program Distribution. The system shall allow control room personnel at selected masters to activate the program channel, and set volume adjustments, at selected substations.

Local Call Indicator Function. Tamper and weather resistant substations shall include circuitry and contacts to connect an external call indicating device that will turn on when a call is placed. Shall also include connections for a remote reset button. Elevator Calls to Control Stations. The system shall allow call requests to be placed from elevator substations to Control Room Masters. The call requests shall be indicated and queued at the Control Station. The queued calls can be scrolled and answered in any order from the Control Station by pressing the call answer key or by manually dialing number. Nuisance Call Reduction. Where substations are to be used only by employees and staff, it shall be possible to program a delayed call from selected substations. Simply momentarily pressing the call button shall not initiate a call. The Call button shall be pressed and held in for several seconds to initiate a call.

2.6 Equipment & Products 2.601 Desk/Wall Master with Display. Standard masters shall include the following controls: dialing buttons 0-9, manual "T" button for speech control and other functions as required, cancel "X" button, and two variable volume controls (up/down). Shall include an 8 character LCD digital display, a 2", 63 ohm, 1.6 watt speaker with a sensitivity of 88 dB, mounted in an acoustic baffle. Shall include an electret condenser microphone with 300 MV output and sensitivity of -65 dB & 1 KHz. Shall include a preamplifier with a 600 ohm output impedance, and greater than 40 dB signal to noise ratio. The frequency response of input and output shall be from 100 to 5000 Hz. Shall provide connections for an external speaker and include a built-in relay for Remote Output/Door Opener function or to drive external call indicators. The master shall be in a modern ABS plastic housing suitable for desk or wall mounting. Shall wall mount by using wall-bracket #GF732. The master shall be STENTOFON #AA711. Wall Master with Display. Shall function exactly like a standard master but with all controls, speaker and microphone mounted on an ABS plastic faceplate, suitable for wall mounting. The finish shall be gray. The master shall include a surface mount box. Shall flush mount by adding a #BF636 clip-on ring and a #6020 flush back box. The master shall be STENTOFON #AA702. Industrial Master Station. Industrial master station shall function as a standard master; casing shall be shock resistant durable Bayblend plastic that is water, dust and chemical resistant. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with adjustable volume and internal 3 watt amplifier. Shall provide connections for an external speaker and include a built-in relay for Remote Output/Door Opener function or to drive external call indicators. Optional 10 watt power amplifier STENTOFON #FC740 may be used. Shall be STENTOFON #AA703.

Console Master Station. Console master station shall function as a standard master, faceplate and keyboard shall be UV cured PVC that is water, dust and chemical resistant. Dial pad shall be backlit and adjustable from the front. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with adjustable volume and internal 3 watt amplifier. Shall provide connections for an external speaker and include a built-in relay for remote control output. Optional 10 watt power amplifier STENTOFON #FC740 may be used. Shall be STENTOFON #AA704. Heavy Industrial Master Station. Heavy industrial master station housing shall be Orange Makrolon plastic with a membrane film keyboard that is surface mount, splash-proof designed for humid, dirty and outdoor conditions. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with a noise canceling microphone, adjustable volume and internal 3 watt amplifier. Shall require an external loudspeaker and include a built-in relay for remote control output. Optional 10 watt power amplifier STENTOFON #FC740 may be used. Shall be STENTOFON #AA705. Clean Room Station. Clean room station shall be flush or on-wall mount IP65 rated master station designed for clean room environments. Station shall include full numeric keypad, volume, simplex and cancel buttons. Station front shall be antimicrobial treated and washable using all common cleaning detergents and chemicals. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with outputs for external loudspeaker and a built-in relay for remote control output. Shall flush mount using 6020 back box or surface mount using 6031 back box. Shall be STENTOFON #AA706. Wall Substation with 1 direct dialing button. Shall be standard 1 button substation that is wall surface mounted designed for indoor conditions. Station shall allow a call-request to a master, or shall activate a doorbell function to all masters programmed to receive a doorbell tone. Face plate and surface mount housing shall be made of high grade, impact resistant ABS plastic. Shall be STENTOFON #AB708. (Shall Flush mount by adding a #BF636 clip on ring and a #6020 back box.) Wall Substation with 3 direct dialing buttons. Shall be standard 3 button substation that is wall surface mounted under indoor conditions. Station shall allow a call-request to a master, or shall activate the doorbell function to all masters programmed to receive the doorbell tone. The face plate and surface mount housing shall be made of high grade, impact resistant ABS plastic. Shall be STENTOFON #AB709. (Shall Flush mount by adding a #BF636 clip on ring and a #6020 back box.) Tamper Resistant Substation. Tamper resistant substations shall allow call request to a master or group by pressing one button. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with adjustable volume and internal 3 watt amplifier. Shall provide connections for an external speaker and include a built-in relay for Remote Output or Door Opener. Stations shall be dust resistant with optimal protection to the microphone, speaker and push button with a 2.0 mm metal face plate. Shall be suitable for flush or surface mounting with the appropriate back box. Shall be STENTOFON #AB731.

Door Station Substation. Door station shall allow call request to a master or group by pressing one button. Communication shall be loud-speaking hands-free with adjustable volume and internal 3 watt amplifier. Shall provide connections for an external speaker and include a built-in relay for Remote Output or Door Opener. Stations shall be dust and water resistant with optimal protection to the microphone, speaker and push button with a 1.5 mm metal face plate and louvered grille. Shall be suitable for flush or surface mounting with the appropriate back box. Shall be STENTOFON #AB731A. Multipurpose Substation. The multipurpose unit shall allow a speaker to also act as a talkback microphone. Unit is splashproof and designed for humid, dirty and outdoor conditions. Unit must be equipped with one loudspeaker that will act as both a loudspeaker or a microphone. BC735R board is required along with 45 ohm speaker of choice. Optional 10 watt power amplifier STENTOFON #FC740 may be used. Shall be STENTOFON #BC735. Power Supply. Shall provide well regulated 24 volt DC, 1.5 Amp power from a 100-240 volt, 50-60 Hz. Shall include an AC cord and be U L Listed and approved for class 2 wiring. One power supply required for every (6) stations (see options for larger unit) Shall be STENTOFON #1117.

2.7 Optional Equipment 2.701 Multipurpose Relay Unit. Shall provide up to (8) relays with form "C" contacts for remote control functions such as indicator lights, door and CCTV camera controls. Unit shall be programmed to pull one or several relays when selected stations call in or are called, or when 2 digit feature numbers are dialed. Shall be STENTOFON #GH750. Audio, PA and Radio Interface. Shall provide an interface between the intercom system and various external audio sources. Adapter shall have one (RX) for receiving and one (TX) for transmitting audio signals and build-in relays for KEY and ON functions. Shall be STENTOFON #HD752. Telephone Interface. Shall provide analogue interconnect with a public telephone line or PABX. Shall provide calling in both directions with option to give a 4-digit password to incoming calls before access to Pro700 system. Shall be STENTOFON #HD754. 10 Watt Amplifier. Board shall provide 10 watt output amplifer. Shall install inside AB731 series substations as well as BC735 unit if needed. Provides amplified audio output in noisy applications where amplified output is required or needed. Shall be Stentofon #FC-740. (Note to specifier: Indicate which stations require amplifier) 2.704 Power Supply. Shall be a well regulated, power limited 24 volt DC 4 amp power supply using 120 volt AC input. Shall be U L listed for fire alarm and security systems and include an AC fail supervisory relay with form "C" contacts. Shall include gray, metal wall mount housing with hinged door and cam lock.

Dimensions not to exceed 12.25" H x 7.75" W x 4.5" D. Shall be STENTOFON #1116. 2.705 Sound Detection Module. Security substations shall include a sound detection module that will allow automatic call request to a master when a preset level of sound is reached. Module shall be field adjustable for different levels of ambient noise and various trigger levels. Shall be STENTOFON #DP996. (Note to specifier: Indicate which stations require sound detection) 2.706 Substation Kit. This substation kit shall be the equivalent of the electronics of the AB731 substation. Features include 3 watt amplifier, built in relay for door release control, speaker and microphone. Call button (momentary) by others. Shall be Stentofon #BD702.

Part III: Execution

3.1 Installation 3.101 3.102 The system shall be installed by qualified technicians who have been factory trained and certified in the installation and maintenance of this particular system. Wiring shall be uniform, approved for intercom use and in accordance with national electric codes and manufacturer's instructions. Contractor shall install the appropriate size wire for the distances involved on this project. Equipment shall be firmly secured, plumb, and level. All splices shall be in stations or in appropriate enclosed junction boxes. All cable runs shall be tagged and identified. All work shall be coordinated with other trades involved.

3.2 System Initializing & Programming 3.201 3.202 3.203 The system shall be turned on and adjustments made to meet all requirements of the specifications and on-site conditions. The system shall be programmed to function as specified. Directory numbers, codes, and any special programming shall be documented and written copy made available to the owner.

3.3 System Test Procedures 3.301 3.302 The system shall be completely tested to assure that all components, stations, speakers, accessories, etc. are hooked up and working. The system shall be pre-tested by contractor and certified to function in accordance with the plans and specifications.

The system shall be tested in the presence of the owner, or owner's representative, if required.

3.4 Manuals & Drawings 3.401 3.402 The contractor shall provide the owner with two (2) copies of standard factory prepared installation manuals. The contractor shall provide the owner with two (2) copies of any risers, layouts, and special wiring diagrams showing any changes to standard drawings (if required on this project).

3.5 On-Site Spares 3.501 The following items shall be left on-site as owner spare equipment: 1. (1) # AB731 Tamper resistant substation. 2. (1) # AA711 desk master.
